Hi there, my pockets are empty by default so I can't afford buying the Visual Studio. Since I still like to write happy proggies in C#, I'm desperately looking for some kind of compiler-gui. I'm NOT look for a complete IDE, just a tool which allows me to set all the complile options, submit the files (source, resource), allows me to add references, etc.) and sends the complete thing to the compiler that comes with the SDK. Any ideas? Matthias

Saw this on JoelOnSoftware- Free development environment from M$: Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003 The Microsoft Visual C++ Toolkit 2003 includes the core tools developers need to compile and link C++-based applications for Windows and the .NET Common Language Runtime http://msdn.microsoft.com/visualc/vctoolkit2003/

Hi Jim, I have been using this IDE for a couple of smaller projects and it's close to be perfect. But I'm looking for a tool with which I can automate my builds. Some of the features I'd like to see are: -> Detects project dependencies and adjusts the build order accordingly -> Logs away the build process -> Supports running commands before and after each project is build -> Supports running commands before the BuildRun -> Supports including/excluding project files on a per configuration basis -> Supports setting of all sensible supported compiler options -> Supports automatically searches for new code- or resource files -> Provides detailed logging -> Supports updating AssemblyVersion The tool should support a GUI and a "hidden" mode. Sorry for not beeing more detailed in my initial post. Matthias

At the first glance the tool seems to be Ok for smaller projects. Wondering how it'll handle a couple of thousand source code files though. :-O Matthias

Nant is half a step up above running the compiler command line. I use it for producing automated builds, and running test scripts.
