NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! Their support sucks and they restrict so much that unless you want a basic static-HTML site with a crappy slow admin interface you would be better off looking anywhere else. Avoid like the plague. They are cheap, and whilst normally you get what you pay for with web hosting with 1&1 you don't even get that.

Clients at work have used them, and every such project has had to either have funtionality removed (at cost to the client) or moved to another host that doesn't place so many restrictions on their hosted web sites. For non-hosted I can't speak, but some of their internal network restrictions could cause problems for some web applications.

I do appologise, I had meant to but when I see 1&1 the blood drains into my eyes. :-O I use OpenHosting[^] for a lot of hosted sites, their prices and products are average but their service is second to none. For really high bandwidth applications you'll need to factor in a higher cost though.

I used to recommend readyhosting.com, until they defrauded me of $100 recently. Excellent service, superior value, deceptive and criminal advertising. I suspect that the problem is a lack of writing skills, rather than a deliberate intent to steal from their customers, as the verbal explanation of their policies makes perfect sense, but the words in the billing agreement don't say the same thing as they practice. Sadly that's a growing problem in the US - illiteracy is rampant, and reaches into the top echelons of many businesses. I know you specified "in the UK" but I just can't pass up any chance to criticize this company. I intend to take away as much business as I can to compensate for all the business they've gained over the years from my recommendations.;) Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

I usually check links, but seeing as I'm expected to work on a 5kbps internet connection here at work I didn't want to risk signing everyone out of MSN again. :(( Corrected.

Hi there - just to say I had a bad experience with a company in the UK called dotnetWebhosting. Here's their site: http://www.dotnet-webhosting.comhttp://www.dotnet-webhosting.com/[^] The support was rude, unhelpful and untrained. We also had issues with downtime and speed. Finally they made it difficult for us to cancel our agreement when we weren't happy with the level of service. From my experiences, and from reading other posts on here, it seems that there are a lot of poor hosting companies out there. Hope is helpful Cheers Steven

Their hosting reseller deal states that the first domain you host with them is charged at full price, and subsequent sites are charged at 50%. Since I already have one active account, when I registered my own site I expected to pay 50%. Instead they billed me 100%. Their reasoning was that the first was an ASP plan (my customer has no interest in ASP.Net) while this one is on the ASP.Net plan. There is no mention made anywhere on the website of the difference, and all they would point me to was a hidden page (located at the footnotes level labelled Billing Terms) in the usual tiny print. Even it is phrased in such a way that I have to work hard to interpret it the way they do, and I wouldn't have found it at all if they had not told me where to search. Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.
