What To Do With A Website?

How about a whole load of pages for the kids and karate you're involved with? You could have future events, results of past events, etc :cool:

It seemed like such a good idea at the time, registering a domain name and purchasing .Net webhosting services. It was all so clear sitting, bored to tears in a bar, woolgathering at work, sitting in traffic; so many possibilities! But now that all is said and done, I have no idea what to put on my website. Something needs to go there - the world has far too many "Under Construction" pages, like the roads in Las Vegas. But what to do? I could advertise my computer services, except that the need to take a regular job has all but eliminated any free time to do that anymore. I could post the blog to end all blogs with 500MB to play with, but it would consist mostly of "Today was much like yesterday - nothing happenned." I could post my brilliant programming, but I haven't any. I could rehost the many websites I've designed, except that they've all been for flaky businesses that no longer exist. What do you do with a personal website? I have no idea. Suggestions? Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.
Promote yourself, do a blog , talk about your tastes , the usual stuff ... Well, lets see... There's vegetables. Vegetables are good... mmmm... no, not vegetables. Ah! Small shiny objects! No - been taken... Hey - how bout a missing object site? You know, a place where people of all walks of life, regardless of race, creed, or favorite vegetable can contribute and commisserate with others who have lost a treasured article. Like, um, i dunno... an ashtray or something...

Meg's World - Blog PhotographyGreat idea, but there are no events. Classes and belt tests aplenty, but there's only one tournament a year in the area, and most can't afford to attend. Me, I'm chicken. Black belt aside, the fact remains that I'm nearly fifty, and bones do get more brittle over time. Some of those "kids" at the tournament are huge, and faster than I am. But I'll definitely try to think of something along those lines - maybe some links to the Kiwanis sites, and to children's activity pages already on the web. Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

My ArticlesGreat looking site, Jon! But the beach looked a lot better when I last saw it, without the hotels. Something simple - a page or two at most - is what I have in mind, but the rest of the space I can use with subfolders to try out stuff on a live site. I've also been toying with the idea of using David's Forums to host a computer support site for my customers. I don't have the time anymore to make many housecalls, but a place where they can post questions and I can answer them when it's convenient might be appreciated. Some people think of it as a six-pack; I consider it more of a support group.

:doh: Good point. But at least we'd have an excuse for some of the java script errors. Hmmm... could be a nice out! Right then, lets get started. The first thing we need is some categories. Can't have a top notch site without categories. We can start with the following: 1. Articles what were absconded by aliens. 2. Articles you are pretty sure were sold by some terrible mistake at the last yard sale, but that the wife has no recollection of selling. (Get a lot of moose antlers here). 3. Articles sucked into apartment sized black holes. 4. Articles submitted to Code Project in the spring of '03. 4. Articles absconded by pizza boxes. Yada yada etc blah blah digga digga digga digga digga digga you get the idea. Look forward to visiting the site.
