Gentlebeings, Team CP is now within the top 700 for the Folding@Home project Team page[^] For those of you who don't know, this is a medical reasearch project that uses background time on your PC. This way univeristies working on projects that will benefit all of us don't have to spend tens of millions on supercomputers. Folding is about basic mechanisms in cells so you never know who around you could be helped by this. Go to the link above and when you install put in your ID (just choose one) and for the team put in 11561. For the other 37 CPians there, :bob: thanks you. Elaine :rose: The tigress is here :-D

I've not run it in a year, and I'm still in the top ten. :-D I've got the id somewhere from when I set it up about 2 years ago.

Hehe...I'm working on my 5th work unit. This thing is huge. I left my 3 GHz HyperThreaded P4 Extreme with 2 Gigs of RAM running all last night and this morning and it's only chewed through about 20% of the thing. I think it's time I started running this on that virutally unused Dual 2GHz Xeon server at work.

I only just noticed, there's a linux client too! Have just downloaded it and it's up and running cool as. This could be just what I need to bump up the rankings a few places! (not that it's a competition - ahem ;) ) As a side-issue - I got mono running with the xsp web server on linux last night - compiled my C#, and browsing the app within minutes. I was so pleased! I didn't want to start another whole new mono thread but just thought I'd mention it :)

yea, when I was running Gentoo at school this past semester I saw the foldingat home in the portage ebuilds (great package system). To get it all I had to type in was emerge foldingathome Also, I never got arround to using mono on linux, what are the differences? I'm sure you can configure KDevelop to use mono to compile the apps. Can you use ASP.net with mono? -Steven Hicks

Well so far I've just compiled using the command line "mcs" I have an ASP.net project written on windows working fine on the XSP web server. My next step is to see if I can use our database code to connect to a mysql database. Mono has drivers for mysql - so - fingers crossed! :)

You can use the console version to run on two processors. You just have to configure it to run with the -local switch and a different machine ID. It's all in the FAQ page. :)

I've got a dual opteron server crunching 2 at a time and it usually chews on some really long work units. The folding software gives harder work units to more powerful computers. You can see who's running more powerful computers because they will have a higher score with much fewer work units.

What do you think of the new BOINC method at SETI@home? I can get it to work from home (after numerous Berkeley server up/downs), but can't use it from work. Probably has something to do with the firewall here, even though we use a proxy server, and the Classic version works fine. "For all of our languages, we cannot communicate" - Christy Moore, Natives

I've read about the Team CP doing f@h several time in the lounge so today I decides that it's time to join the team. Just installed the Linux-engine on my home-server and started folding. Now waiting for the first WU to complete - think it will be tomorrow.

Either the first WU that I've been assigned is too complicated or my computer is too slow :) It's 59% complete after 2 days! I hope I'll be able to finally upload it after the weekend. [EDIT]I've just noticed that team CP is already ranked 601. :)[/EDIT] Rado
