Is it an illness to be a geek ?!

I've heard a lot about "Asperger Autism", but yesterday I read a casual term for it: The "Geek Syndrome" ^. So I took part in a screening test ^, and got a score of 37 (eighty percent of those diagnosed with autism or a related disorder scored 32 or higher). Did anybody else take that test? How many possible "Asperger Autists" are here on CP, and... why the hell do those psycho-docs call it a syndrome?! It's not bad to be strange. If there was a little more tolerance for strange people, no "Aspi" would need any therapy. :rose: Have Fun testing yourself, coco

Thing is, in forced social situations (meetings with clients, investors, etc.) I can schmooze my way into their favor, and have shifted their focus my way in many occassions. Even as a kid I was very manipulative. I've seen tests like this before, and while I am normally very focused on things, very imaginitive (finding solutions where others cannot in many situations), and all that go with it I tend to have a bit more social skills than those diagnosed with autism (of varying kinds). I wouldn't put too much faith in such tests unless it accounts for such things. Just calculating numbers doesn't say a whole lot. Everyone who knows me personally finds me to be a big geek (I take that as a compliment, thus proving it, wouldn't you say? :)). And what little I know of you from this site, I think you're a geek, too. I only hope you view that as a compliment as well. :)

The percentage of those scoring over 32 that have been diagnosed is more interesting though, at least if you're testing to see if you are autistic it is.... VHF == Very High Functioning. - It means the Aspie can imitate almost all social skills, and other stuff, thus if you looked at the person you wouldn't recognize they had the syndrome. Regardz Colin J Davies
