Poll: What email client are you using?
-
Something was messed up with an office installion and continually tried to update installations of VS.NET and Office every time I launched one of the products along with completely hosing my FrontPage to the point it would not boot. Had to reinstall Office and did not want the hassle of getting everything hooked back up in Outlook for the more than 30 email accounts I use. So, instead of the hassle with Office again (as I do every time I reinstall), I switched to Mozilla Thunderbird for my email client. While it does not have the features Outlook does, it also (so far) does not have the virus problems that Outlook does. Personally, I do not use the calendar or scheduling in Outlook and mostly used it for an email client so no lose there. Configuration for a large number of email accounts in Thunderbird is a bit of a pain, but so far it seems to work okay. So, that brought to mind what I think would be good poll material. What email client are you using? I tried to pick a list of the most popular. Naw, mostly just mentioned it here since we do not have any ability to create polls. There are many other forums out there, but have not had the time to mentioned to any of them. Only had 439 unique vistors so far, but hey, it is only for fun so it does not matter much. No big plans to ever make anything commercial out of it. Well, I have 28 domains and I like to have at least one account that is the primary on the domain. Do not like forwarding it to on account or anything like that. When I send a message to someone at HintsAndTips.com, I do not expect a reply from someone at RJSoft.com :) Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.MyQuickPoll.com - 2004 Election poll is #33 www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

You might want to make the distiction vs. home and work email. I'm sure most of us use outlook at work.

You're missing several options. Let's not forget Lotus Notes. :-D And also what about web-based clients? At home I use one of those provided by my ISP. Much easier to just keep all the mail on their stinkin' server and be able to access it from anywhere and not just this computer. An expert is somebody who learns more and more about less and less, until he knows absolutely everything about nothing.

Yes, this is true. I just figured that people would select the one "they" use most not really one that is forced on them by management. Should have included that into the question, thanks! Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.MyQuickPoll.com - 2004 Election poll is #33 www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com

The only reason I brought it up was that I couldn't imagine 44% of people using Outlook for their home email. If it wasn't for exchange or corporate email, I couldn't imagine using it at all.

Well, I don't know. I have used it since 1996 or 1997. The only thing that pushed me over was the thought of having to enter all those accounts and passwords over again along with getting my email hooked up in the correct folders. Now that I am on Thunderbird, I seem to like it pretty well. There area several things that can be a pain with a large number of accounts, but it seems to have the features I require. Hopefully they will add more features that I "desire" :) One would to be able to see the number of unread messages in an account without having to expand the account on the tree. Get tired scrolling up and down trying to spot any new mail in all those accounts. Would be great if they had a summary folder which had a list of all recently received mail that was not flagged as junk. Oh yeah, and better junk parsing would be great. Get tired of the same email and having to keep flagging it as junk :) Of course, one of the greatest features is not worry about viruses when opening a message!! But, since Thunderbird is open source, you can make the changes yourself.:-D The junk mail filter does get better. It took a couple of weeks for me to train it, but after that almost no junk mail gets through. There were a couple of emails recently that used ascii art, but I only had to mark a few of those and they are all getting blocked now.

I've been using The Bat! for quite some time and can recommend it especially when you have a lot of accounts. I do do some forwarding and by using The Bats macro's you can quite easilly handle the 'reply to/from' issue you mention. I'm also keeping an eye on Thunderbird but so far it doesn't come close to The Bat! for lots of accounts etc. You should check it out. But who has the six months to dig through all their code :) I also forgot, I have burried C/C++ in the past where legacy technologies reside ;) andy brummer wrote: There were a couple of emails recently that used ascii art, but I only had to mark a few of those and they are all getting blocked now. Yeah, get the same ones :-O Have flagged them several times but it has not yet caught on. Sad part is that I get them on multiple accounts and their filter training is "per" account... Still, I will suffer with it for the benefits it provides! I am a bit surprised no one has voted for Incredimail or Poco Mail. Both have been popular of late. Well, I guess you get to vote twice. ;) I'm just saying there is a difference between corporate and home email. Damn, I miss working from home. I need to find a job that only requires 1-2 days onsite.

MyQuickPoll is a great idea, I think I'll use it soon to add poll to my personal website. Thanks In Advance :)

Hey thanks! That is what it is there for, to be used! Glad it can help out! I am pondering a link page where people can post a link to thier site if they have a poll active. Either that or possibly add a field to the poll for a web site link that the author can provide when they build the tip. Of course, that would be more beneficial if the tips were made public so that all the people that visit the site can see the other polls posted. What do you think?
