The Olympics

21.5K is quite respectable. I haven't run anything longer than about 7-8 miles the last three years or so. I like cycling myself; I ride a Trek 1220 road bike. Megan Forbes wrote: Comrades ultra marathon  People who do ultras are incredible. I can see myself doing another marathon (or at least a half) some day, but an ultra is out of my reach. I'm too old, too heavy, and have too many biomechanical problems :sigh:.

Similar here then, I haven't done any road running for quite a while. In SA I no longer feel it's safe enough, and coming over to the UK I was too lazy :-O. Still, I swim before work each morning, and we do a lot of offroad cycling and hiking on weekends, so I'm quite a bit fitter than I look :)

With only 3 days to go to the Olympics, which events are you looking forward to watching most? (if any) I find the gymnastics incredible and always look forward to watching them. I also quite enjoy watching the marathon. Unusual for me to be looking forward to sports TV quite so much

Meg's World - Blog PhotographyI always enjoy the gymnastics events; the rest are of no interest at all. "My kid was Inmate of the Month at Adobe Mountain Juvenile Corrections Center" - Bumper Sticker in Bullhead City

Meg's World - Blog PhotographyWithout doubt the sprint events. ZOOM! "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

Meg's World - Blog PhotographyI'll enjoy laughing at the cheats who get caught using banned performance enhancing drugs and then sripped of their medals. Bet there will be plenty of that going on - seems to be endemic at the moment. I also will wonder how many winners have been lucky to take a substance that doesn't show up in any tests...

Meg's World - Blog PhotographyThe Drug Scandal event, very entertaining ;) To be honest, track and field is not my thing. I love the opening and closing shows of the Olympics and that is about it. If you twisted my arm then I guess I would have to say the swimming events or the relay races. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan wrote: "I always knew that somewhere deep inside that likable, Save the Whales kinda guy there lurked the heart of a troublemaker..." Meg's World - Blog PhotographyGymnastics, Diving, Fencing, and of course the ever present programming... What! That's not an event?! Well! Then, the Olympics suck!;)

Swimming is good, track & field too. I mostly like the individual sports, can't be bothered with the team sports like hockey, football, basketball. The table tennis is always good for laugh :)
>The table tennis is always good for laugh Those guys are scary. They have ESP for sure. Absolutely insane how fast and reactive they are. I forgot about the team sports. But I find they are not terribly thrilling as there is no history or consistency. A team that comes together only every four years to play another team doesn't have the same interest to me as the year in, year out team of the same sport. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan wrote: "I always knew that somewhere deep inside that likable, Save the Whales kinda guy there lurked the heart of a troublemaker..." I've done a lot of running in my time, yes, although 21.5Km is the longest I've ever done in one stretch. I enjoyed cross country at school more than road running, and these distances tend to be shorter. I also enjoy swimming, cycling and kayaking, I guess as a result of being crap at sports like field hockey (where I do enjoy playing wing). In SA we grow up watching the Comrades ultra marathon on one of the winter public holidays. I guess that's what got me into watching it :)

Meg's World - Blog Photography>In SA we grow up watching the Comrades Comrades! We often went down to the start at 4am when they ran the uphill. Was awesome hearing the music and the cock crowing. Such a pity they don't televise it any more. Just a few highlights really these days :( regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan wrote: "I always knew that somewhere deep inside that likable, Save the Whales kinda guy there lurked the heart of a troublemaker..." Meg's World - Blog PhotographyThe time when the IT infrastructure crashes and burns. That will probably involve some gymnastics and may also be a marathon.

Last week on a local radio station, they mentioned that a new event this year would be Womens Wrestling...so I thought... Womens Wrestling in Greece...that should be interesting.... I "heard" there will be 4 divisions: A, B, C and Double-D  Steve

Show tunes? As in from the opening of Friends or Married with Children? Or do you mean like Andrew Lloyd Weber and from les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? I know it isn't cool to admit liking opening ceremonies but I love them, they blow me away. The Sydney Olympics was just incredible. A lot of work went into that and they did it amazingly well. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan wrote: "I always knew that somewhere deep inside that likable, Save the Whales kinda guy there lurked the heart of a troublemaker..." Meg's World - Blog PhotographyI used to love watching the Olympics in the old Roone Arledge ABC Sports days. Now, the US coverage is (in my opinion) very poor, so I don't watch it. I would love to be able to get my Olympics through another country via satellite or the internet. But NBC has all of that locked up. So I'll watch highlights here and there. And long for a return to the pure, old fashioned Olympics where the winners got laurel leaves and the competitors wrestled naked...:-O liobsynde We have choices. Is Taekwondo an official olympic game now? Ok. Add that to the currently not too big list of events I want to see: Judo and Boxing. :) -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist! Es ist mein Teil...?
