Norton is this most resource intensive, bloated, gonna screw up your computer in your time of need anti-virus solution out there. But hey, don't take my word for it. Also, open up take manager to have a look at how many processes Norton started. Jeremy Falcon

I have used Norton Antivirus since the old DOS versions where is stated "nor protection for 1.200 different vira" on the box, and I have never ever had a single problem with it. I have also used the enterprise versions, and they works just fine too. - Anders Money talks, but all mine ever says is "Goodbye!" ShotKeeper, my Photo Album / Organizer Application[^]

Well, clue number one is there's no such word as "vira". And, I never had a problem with it until I got a virus one day (CIH). Instead of Norton getting rid of it, Norton trashed my system. Also, it's a resource hog. And, causes Office problems too. Jeremy Falcon

I am about to buy an antivirus program. Which should I use if I want it to: * Be non-intrusive (I choose what to scan, and when) * Don't hog resources unless I ask it to -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist! Es ist mein Teil...?

Well, we have been using McAfee 7.0 on our newer PCs here and I haven't had any problems which is shocking. It even removes Adware, malware, etc. but you have to manually set that feature. I normally don't recommend McAfee but it seems that 7.0 isn't a hog and actually updates very smooth except I do have to do a manual install of the 4.3.20 engine on a new install. vprashu wrote: its FREE for a year It's also quite inexpensive afterwards, works great, doesn't crash systems, doesn't require any special maintenance, and - did I mention? - it doesn't crash systems. Unlike better known and more aggressively marketed AV products, it has never in my experience caused a system to need rebuilding from scratch, nor even corrupted a single file or feature. To be fair, I actually have installed Norton without it trashing the system - three times in the past 6 years or so. It can be done, but why risk it? I've also used Sophos' AV product with excellent results, but not since I tried EZ Trust, so I can't say that I know about their current offerring. Previous versions were excellent, though, and I haven't heard any negatives since the last time I used it. In fact it bewilders some of my users because I tell them to click delete and then another dialogbox appears but with the delete option removed, leaving only Clean or Stop. Pressing Clean never works so you must click Stop in order to get rid of the dialogbox. Really dumb. I think there is an option to disable the messages from appearing but I have never really been that motivated to make the time to figure it out. If it was up to me we would have Norton but someone else decided to get longterm licenses with McAfee. Later, JoeSox post # 3,991 joeswammi.com ↔ humanaiproject.org ↔ joeswammi.com/sinfest

The problem with McAfee is that they are spammers. I never signed up for their spam, but still I get spam from them. They will never have me as a customer. :) -- Denn du bist, was du isst! Und ihr wisst, was es ist! Es ist mein Teil...?

Agreed with Ian, I use AVG for a year (thanks to Daniel Turini who popularized AVG in the Lounge) and my PC hasn't been contaminated, yet :) And as Firewall I use the free version of Kerio, much less resource-consuming than ZoneAlarm (I had to shut ZA every two days, or it took 90% of the CPU :sigh: )

Norton Antivirus Coporate Edition works fine if get it install correctly, it took a 2 support call to find out you can't install it and it's components straight out of the box. Dunno if this applies to Version 9.0. Once installed, works a treat.
