Hi everyone, I know that CP has got a Latest Article RSS feed, but isn't there a feed for forum posts, especially for the Lounge? I couldn't find anything so I guess no, but I would really like it, I just started to explore the RSS world yesterday and it seems like fun. ;) Also, what readers do you use? I'm looking for something free and lightweight, standalone running in the tray. I was playing a little with FeedReader[^] and SharpReader[^] and can't really decide between the two. I don't like the gigantic toolbar of the FeedReader which can only be big or bigger, but SharpReader occupies about twice as much memory as FeedReader. Are there any better readers/aggregators? What would you recommend? Thanks, Rado

I'm currently using Sauce Reader[^] It's still a newish product and a little unstable in places, but it does the job very well (for me at least) Michael CP Blog [^]

If it has to be free then I second Sauce Reader. If you can afford a bit then FeedDemon. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Christopher Duncan wrote: "I always knew that somewhere deep inside that likable, Save the Whales kinda guy there lurked the heart of a troublemaker..." If you're into Firefox/Mozilla perhaps Sage might be a viable option. It doesn't run within the tray, but it is nicely integrated into the browser.

For me, nothing beats RSS Bandit, but if you are that concerned about memory or CPU use, I think you should steer away from that. Yes, even I am blogging now!

I'm going to second the Sage recommendation - it's the program that finally made reading RSS tolerable for me.

Looks really nice, I'll surely play with it a little. As for the memory/CPU usage, it doesn't look that bad so far, it is somewhere between the FeedReader and SharpReader. Thanks for the tip! Rado

The News Reader I wrote already works for the CodeProject Lounge by using the XML WebService like a feed. These webservices were implemented for the Code Project screen savers. The (totally free) firstobject News Reader is very light, simple and quick, and utilizes MSXML for asynchronous feed access so it never gets tied up and it doesn't need separate proxy creds as it goes through IE. The download is a simple exe, and wherever you run it from it will create a feedstatus.xml file for holding feeds and caching downloads. Its not fully featured, but has the basics, add/delete, Show New, summarize and item detail. Reads various RSS versions, generic XML, but not Atom. See the article at http://www.firstobject.com/dn_reader.htm[^] The article shows you how to add the Code Project Lounge to your list of feeds. I wrote it primarily for this purpose, after writing a screen saver for Code Project: http://www.codeproject.com/cpp/smoovcpscreensaver.asp[^]

I just wanted to let you that RSS bandit is probably the winner. The 3 readers that I'm still testing are RSS Bandit, RSS Reader and SharpReader, and each of them has got something that I don't really like. With SharpReader it is the absence of a "Read on" link, with RSS Reader it is the not-so-nice UI. What I still don't like about RSS Bandit is the fact that once "Read On" is clicked, it will open a new tab, unlike RSS Reader or SharpReader which will display the page in the preview pane. This would save one click when one wants to read another message/article, but still the tabbed browsing would be fine, only if when a "Read On" in another article is clicked it would open a new tab instead of reusing the existing tab. [EDIT]Another problem that I forgot to mention is that the mouse wheel often stops working in the HTML viewer, after a block of text has been selected. Once you click a link on that page, it will start to work again. This really busg me! :)[/EDIT] But anyway, I'll probably stick with it. :) Thanks for the tip! Rado
