Does anyone know of a (fairly reliable) free website hosting service? Although I can't see why anyone would offer such a service, I have heard that they do exist. I've agreed to help a couple of scientists out with a site - the area I grew up in seems to have a growing number of black leopards being sighted. These guys are trying to find proof, and then study them. Strangely a white (albino) leopard was once spotted on our farm, but no black ones :) Anyway, the project needs publicity to help generate funds. To help with publicity they need a website... There are za.net domains available for free to such organisations in SA, but no hosting services, and I don't want to put their site on my work servers here for example as we'll probably be leaving the UK in the next 12 months or so. Any ideas? Thanks :)

ithium is a non-profit webhost, but you'll have to contact them to see if they would like to host your site or not! :) go to www.ithium.net and follow the email link, or go through the forums. ------------------------------------------------------- ithium is the best. You could try Dabs Online (www.dabsol.co.uk[^]). This is completely free, the only catches being that a) you have to dial in at least once a month (Dabs Online get a cut of the phone charges you incur, which is where their revenue comes from) b) you can only upload from a dialed-in computer (ie you must be connecting from one of their IP addresses). I would also recommend you read their AUP (http://www.dabsol.co.uk/homepagesaup.html[^]) to make sure there's nothing in there you object to.

Interesting: You get 2,5 GByte web space but only 100 MByte Transfer (per Month?)... :) and I can't find any description what happens the Transfer Limit is reached. :( Will they block the Site or charge you the additional traffic ? Greets Roland

The Czech-based hosting company http://www.pipni.cz[^] offers a free hosting plan if you have a registered domain which you can point to their nameservers. I have been using their services for some time, they're not 100% reliable, but I think that they're still quite reliable for a free service. You can also use PHP/JSP/ASP and MySQL/PosgreSQL databases I think, no ASP.NET though. Many of my friends are still using their free plan. Rado
