Is there anyway to get the CP forums like the lounge in a RSS feed? ------ I am the sole owner of all comments/statements made by myself, and they do not represent those of my company in any way. Furthermore, it’s a shame it has come to the point where we have to make statements like this. Cheers! ====================== Matthew R. Miller www.computersmarts.net[^]

Defeats the whole purpose of having an ad supported site doesn't it ? "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

No, it wouldn't. CP had, and still may I just can't find it, an RSS feed for the Lounge. It gave just the top level which is what it should do, so bringing people to the Lounge and so seeing ads. You couldn't really fully RSSify, in one file, the forums though as they are threaded. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" That's the kind of thing Daniel Turini wrote. I think it was called Desktop Bob. I used it for awhile but now I just hit refresh. You could put ads in the RSS feed like Lockergnome does. And I have seen threads be put into RSS feeds before. Anyway, I was just wondering if CP had this feature… because I could not find it – which happens a lot so I thought I would ask. Thanks for reminding me. I remember now. CP had a Lounge RSS feed and Daniel wrote Desktop Bob to consume as I did with CP+. Not sure why Chris pulled the webservice. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" Crikey! ain't life grand?

Probably because of the bandwidth… that would be my guess. I can imagine that us CPians use a ton of bandwidth, especially if people were refreshing the RSS feed a lot. Quite a debate going on about that in RSS circles. Interesting stuff. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" Crikey! ain't life grand?

Yes I completely agree, and all that I would need would be the thread starting messages in the RSS feed (similar to the way the RSS feeds for CPian blogs work). If I noticed something of my interest I would open The Lounge right away. Rado

I started a thread about this few weeks ago, and Chris asked everyone to vote [^]5 if they want RSS feed for the Lounge and 1 if they don't want or don't care about it. 34 people voted and the final score is 3.5, so ... Personally I don't think it would be a problem to implement, since we already have RSS feed for our blogs, it could be the same code but would accept forum ID instead of the member ID? I think that refreshing the full Lounge page every 5 minutes in a browser uses a lot more bandwidth than an XML based RSS feed refreshed only every 30 or 60 minutes. :) Rado

Probably… but adding something else that sucks more bandwidth might be the straw on the camels back :) ------ I am the sole owner of all comments/statements made by myself, and they do not represent those of my company in any way.
