I do not know about anyone else but I was really disappointed to hear there is not going to be a NHL season this year!!!! That really bites! ------ I am the sole owner of all comments/statements made by myself, and they do not represent those of my company in any way. Furthermore, it’s a shame it has come to the point where we have to make statements like this. Cheers! ====================== Matthew R. Miller www.computersmarts.net[^]

If it means the owners/GMs/players finally get a clue and realize how delusional they've been about the sport over the last ten years, then I'm all for scrubbing the season.

I think both sides have a point For the players: A salary cap is unfair. They should be able to ask for any salary. The owners can decide not to pay (and then they'll probably end up on the Rangers ;) ) For the owners: Successful businesses need cost certainty. They need to forcast the health of their business. I think a great solution would be to pay the players based on performance. e.g. Forward: Base salary: $300,000 1 goal = $15,000 1 assist = $10,000 Participating in a win = $5,000 Participating in a tie = $5,000 Defenceman: Base salary: $300,000 1 goal = $15,000 1 assist = $10,000 On ice for a goal = $5,000 Participating in a win: $5,000 Participating in a tie: $5,000 Goalie: Base salary: $300,000 Win: $20,000 Tie: $10,000 Shutout: $10,000 Of course there are many other gages that could be added. Bonuses could be given for making the playoffs and winning the Stanley Cup etc, etc, etc The NHL could also offer different "salary profiles". For instance a high scoring forward should have the choice to get a lower base salary, and recieve higher bonuses instead (and vice versa). All the bonuses should be variable, based directly on the revenue of the NHL. i.e. a goal would be worth 0.001 % of the NHLs revenue. 60% of statistics are made up on the spot

Tell me about it.:( and then I was reading this earlier today. "Roenick says he's injured, entitled to salary The Flyers center, who suffered a concussion in the playoffs, expects trouble from the team, which may consider him fit. The Flyers and Jeremy Roenick are headed for a confrontation over whether he is entitled to be paid during a lockout as an injured player. What's at stake is the $7.5 million salary Roenick would get this season. Even during the NHL lockout, under the terms of the expired collective bargaining agreement, all injured players from last season must be paid. ...Roenick says he expects a fight from the Flyers. "I am sure anyone who deems themselves as injured will have a fight with the NHL this year," he said. "People have said to me all summer, 'JR, you don't seem right.' My wife, my friends, the media. My whole career is riding on what happens over the next couple of weeks... . If he [Clarke] says there's no problem with me, he's crazy."" http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/9725394.htm[^] The Flyers' organization befuddles me at times. Roenick is topnotch. Just like the lockout back in '94, there still might be a season, albeit a shortened one. Terms of agreement could be reached by January and a short four month season could be run. However, don't hold your breath. As much as it is difficult to sympathize with the players who earn pretty large salaries, there isn't a sinlge owner who had a gun put to his head forcing him to agree to those salaries. Gary Bettman and all the owners have dug their grave and now are trying to place the blame on the players. Remember folks, this is a lockout. That means the owners have decided there is to be no hockey. The players would still be out there at camps right now and we would all be anticpating the season starting, but it is the owners who have decided that is not to happen. Fortunately there is a Junior hockey team in my home town and I'll be going to their Saturday and Sunday home games this season. It may not be pro hockey, but it will satisfy my hockey need. :) Chris Meech I am Canadian. [heard in a local bar] This weekend, Jacques is back behind the wheel.
