One of mine would have to be The Shawshank Redemption.

Highlander (Great adventure) When Harry met Sally (Best romance/comedy ever made) 2001 (While not as good as the book, it's one of the best Sci-fi movies ever made) Dark City (Quite spooky, and, I think, a better movie implementation of "The Wonderland Gambit" than Matrix :-) ) "After all it's just text at the end of the day. - Colin Davies "For example, when a VB programmer comes to my house, they may say 'does your pool need cleaning, sir ?' " - Christian Graus
If you thought Dark City was better than The Matrix, then you need to see 'The Thirteenth Floor' which is ALSO better than The Matrix as for a storyline and a twist.

Also better than the Matrix and a kind of instant cult is Equilibrium.

Haven't seen the 1st two movies... Leon = Seen it twice, and I don't get what all the fuss is about, so I'm in the minority here based on it's imdb rating. Blues Bros. = great comedy with great music. I've had my favorites posted for ages in my signature, so I'll use films outside of that list. [Action] 1) T2 2) The Killer - (similar idea to Leon [hitman with heart of gold/female in distress/policeman triangle], acting not as good, but better action, music and story) [Adventure/Fun] 1) Empire/Star Wars 2) Back to the Future 3) Raiders [Comedy] 1) Planes, Trains & Autos 2) Arsenic and Old Lace [Crime/Pulp] 1) Memento 2) Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia - a bizarre and pulpy tale of a mexican crime lord, a scummy piano player, his prostitute girlfriend, gay hitmen and a severed head. Way ahead of its time. 3) The Asphalt Jungle [Documentaries] 1) Spellbound - tracks a bunch of kids and their families as they lead up to the National Spelling Bee 2) Fog of War - McNamara teaches us what he learned from being involved in WWII and the Vietnam War. Watch this one over 9/11. [Drama] 1) Godfather I & II 2) Citzen Kane 3) Taxi Driver 4) The Lost Weekend 5) Shawshank 6) Dog Day Afternoon [Foreign] 1) Rashomon 2) Yojimbo 3) Crouching Tiger [Horror] 1) Dawn of the Dead (original) 2) Night of the Living Dead 3) The Exorcist 4) Freaks 5) 28 Days Later (one of the best horrors in decades imho) [Sci-Fi] 1) Blade Runner 2) Day the Earth Stood Still [Thriller] 1) North x Northwest 2) Jaws [War] 1) Bridge on the River Kwai 2) The Great Escape [Western] 1) Good/Bad/Ugly 2) Ox-Bow Incident - Not a traditional western, it's almost like a 12 Angry Men-in-the-west type thing, only the outcome is horrendous. Oh well, there goes my lunch time...
