I have learned something, most people don't read the mainpage on websites ;) Well, here goes the story... On WDevs[^] we have teamed up with Derek from Salamander Software[^] and he provides ASP.NET Hosting under the WDews brand. The interesting thing was that not as much as a single developer signed up for the hosting, not even the free packages. We was a bit curious about why, as people had asked us to provide that service, but no, no one seemed interested... Then today we sent out our first WDevs Newsletter where Colin (Davies), who wrote it, mentioned the hosting. Bing, a couple of hours later 2 people had ordered hosting... I know the numbers are small, but I still found it interesting that people read the newsletter but not the main page on the website. Well, it's always nice to learn something new :-D - Anders My Photos

I just sign up to your site to check on the ASP.NET offering. Can't say that I'm very excited. Even the elite plan (190/year) only gives you 150 MB disk space and 300 MB data transfer. But, for example, http://www.readyhosting.com[^] ASP.NET plan ($198/year) offeres 500 MB space and an unlimited data transfer. Now, why would I select your service? Igor.

Try to send a mail to Derek, from the contact form at the hosting pages... It's him that does the hosting and have made the prices, but maybe he will change them if you can show it's too expensive... - Anders My Photos

OK, I did. But it may explain why people are not very thrilled to sign up for your hosting service. Igor.

Anders, IMHO if you are trying to promote the hosting, your main page (via the WDevs link) is laid out pretty horribly. It took me 30 seconds to actually find out what you were referring to (and I'm assuming it's the section in the 'news' link.) The way the text is laid out, I can't really grap A) what WDevs does, and B) where to look for information, in any reasonable amount of time. It's kind of like the default, obligatory text in Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that my brain is now trained to skip over (they could put a link that says "You are the one visitor that we will give $1,000 to if you click this link" and I wouldn't notice). Considered an image of some kind? Different color sections? Maybe the ASP.NET logo if you qualify for it along with the ad? Food for thought. B

Hmmm well I read the main page fairly thoroughly; thoroughly enough to sign up for a blog account and an email account. I have no need for the ASP.NET service so I haven't asked for it (why put some poor bugger through the hoops for something for which I currently have no need?) but I was certainly aware it was there if I needed it. Oh, and having seen who was behind the site I had no qualms about registering. I may not always agree with Colin or with you Anders but I've seen enough of you both here on CP to take a chance :) If Morten reads this please don't take offense but your name didn't leap out at me :) Of more concern (but perchance this belongs over on WDevs) is the fact that I didn't receive the newsletter :) Rob Manderson I'm working on a version for Visual Lisp++ My (occasional) blog http://blogs.wdevs.com/ultramaroon/[^]

I noticed something similar too when I put a new article on Code Project, even if it is a slow week for new articles and the link stays on the homepage for a while. The hit count is quite small until it gets mentioned in the weekly newsletter. Anders Molin wrote: The interesting thing was that not as much as a single developer signed up for the hosting, not even the free packages I have to say that although I already knew about the hosting, and I do want it at some point, I'm not ready to take up the deal as I have to create something to be hosted first.

I'm not seeing much on the readyhosting package that isn't offered by our Elite package except stuff that you most likely won't use (like unlimited email aliases). Granted they are offering more hard disk space, but how much do actually need? Our offering is aimed at developers and we try to offer whatever developers need. If you feel that we aren't offering what you want then talk to us and tell us what you want and what you're prepared to pay for it. I'm sure we can come to some kind of agreement. Derek Lakin.
