What on earth is taking soooooo long for PCIe to come out. I am ready to upgrade NOW. Shure, shure go pick an intel mobo and shut up. But I want choice. Where the hell is AMD, aren't they suppose to be competitive with intel. Not to mention the great selection of graphics cards. $600 anyone. I will now go cry in the corner with my PII 400mzh pos. That is all. -Mark

i agree, i finally gave in though and built a dual xeon box that is all tricked out but has pcix 64. I just couldn't keep waiting for pcie. I would prefer ot be buying all my addon cards with the future in mind rather than the past. (of course I'm also a person that turns off all serial and parallel ports on any new mboard I get and build into a system). :)

Its not AMD, its the motherboard manufacturers, or rather the motherboard chipset manufacturers. Keep an eye open for motherboards using the Via K8T890 chipset or the NForce 4 chipset. I imagine they should start appearing pretty soon.

nVidia just announced the nForce4 chipset, and some motherboards have already been reviewed. It has not only PCIe, but it supports DUAL PCIe video cards... I think ATI has already released a PCIe version of the radeon. So what are you waiting for? ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. For what it's worth, PCIe is really no faster than AGP 8X because no games have been written yet to take advantage of the extra texture loading bandwidth that PCIe allows. I figure it'll be at least two years before anythign comes along that truly exploits the hardware, so it's safe to stick with AGP for the time being. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. By the time PCIe is affordable you will be complaining about something else not being out yet. Buy when you can afford to, and don't regret the better system that is coming out tommorow.

You can already buy ATI X300 card at reasonable price. It is not world's fastest card, but what can you expect for ~$100. Pz

I agree. budget (is that an evil word?) and know how much you can spend, use it, and stop looking after. If you want to upgrade often, give yourself an upgrade account through an accounting program (dang, my Business accounting is showing through now, shoot). After my last divorce, I was dead broke, left without even the close on my back (hospital gowns don't cover that area). So I had to beg and borrow my first computer on my own (again). It isn't easy to budget some money when you lack it, and even though I knew I wasn't going to be broke forever, I still wasn't willing to put it on credit. I beat myself in line and kept to a very strict budget for 6 months, and borrowed or got used donations from anyone who was willing. With barely a budget to cover food, rent, and bills, I still managed to cut coupons, restrict eating out, conserve bills, and pay for a new, not very state of the art computer piece by piece over the first year. If you really want it, you can find a way to make it happen, but there is always a new "feature" tomorrow, always new technologies, graphics card, cpu, drive I/O, etc. Once you know what you want, have the money for it, get it, and stop looking. :) there's my 2 cents worth... though probably need change. :) _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I am not at all worried that it is not out. First versions of stuff like this usually have bugs and cost more than what they are replacing with little or no gain at the time they are released. As such I plan on waiting about 6 months after it is out to consider purchasing anything PCI-E for my department. John
