Marc, Huh? That makes no sense. I didn't say that we do no advertising, just not here. According to your logic, every tool vendor should advertise here because they would get clear ROI, right? Why don't they? Because the cost of advertising is greater than the sales they would receive. Look Marc, if you don't like what I posted, then please just delete it, instead of insulting us. I will no longer provide financial support for this site. Thanks!

I think that what has not been said is that people here prefer descrete advertising in the forums. For example as a link in a signature of a post. And that the post should be on topic for the discussion. If you look at Marc's post (and many others, including myself) they have links to their product(s)/service(s) in their signature which is unobtrusive. A post that has no other function than to sell a product is often viewed with hostility (as you have found).

So, instead of advertising on this site (which by your statement I assume would not result in a ROI > advertising cost) you are trying the free advertising route. Therefore, your ROI < advertising cost. Since the advertising cost of advertising for free is 0, your ROI < 0. :-D Roger Jack wrote: Look Marc, if you don't like what I posted, then please just delete it, instead of insulting us. Wow! I though this was the lounge and what I posted was reasonable. I guess I have aggravated some people. Marc - Feel free to delete my post if you think it is inappropriate.

Your other post[^] was much more developer friendly and got reasonable responses. I guess it just shows that how you say something is sometimes more important than what you say. I understand and thanks for the clarification. I really wasn't trying to advertise our existing product, but I could see how it could be interpreted that way.

Sorry Roger but this is a completely inappropriate use of the Lounge and of CodeProject in general. Not cool. cheers, Chris Maunder

Imagine a company BBQ, where you can bring your spouse, and one of them asks loudly "anyone interested in used laptops? We have great offers". It is not a good analogy, but the best I can think of. If life was simple, we could say "no product advertisements in the lounge". But life is more complicated. As it seems by "community agreement" (which is not necessarily the opinion of everybody), a product information is ok if: - it's relative to the "windows developer community, and you are obviously not affiliated with the maker - it is part of your sig, it is not more prominent than the main message, and the message isn't just to show off your sig - at least 3 out of 4: you are a regular, have contributed to the site (good articles, help in forums, etc.), the product did raise some interest before, and you do it in a humble way. The last being the most debatable, because the definition is very fuzzy, but I've seen it happen, and I don't think it's bad.

Chris, I now understand that now and I apologize. Several people have kindly pointed out the unofficial rules for the forum and I now understand. Since you are a SysAdmin, I assume that you can remove the entire thread. Please feel free to do so. Thanks!

Somehow I don't think that the original punishment of flogging included everyone taking turns with the whip....
