Few additions... He never says die. Has seen him giving breaks many times than any other bowlers in his team.

Nish, probably writer of that column forgot to mention the batting capabilities of Kapil. He was perhaps the only genuine all-rounder India ever produced. But having said that, I still believe that Kumble is a great bowler of this era. Perhaps he was a bit unlucky in terms of his cricketing era coz he was always over-shadowed by another Giant figure in the form of Tendulkar. Probably, he is ignored because he is playing at a wrong time. Gavaskar was best batsman in the world during his time. Kapil was best all-rounder during his time. Tendulkar is best batsman at the moment. But Kumble is not the best. Warne and Muralitharan are the best spinners at the moment. But yes, he is a champion.

Clarrie Grimmett is the best of all time. 37 tests, 216 wickets at 24.16. Born in New Zealand he moved to Australia so he could play test cricket. Incumbents kept him out of Sheffield Shield for years and didn't play test cricket till 33. He was dropped at 44 after taking 44 wickets against South Africa in 5 tests. Was still regarded as the best bowler in the world at the time and held the world wicket taking record (1936) for 17 years till it was broken. Hard to say as you can't really judge between eras, especially when you don't get to see them play or film fottage of them. If I had to put one name foward it would probably be Allan Border. Played in the late 70's and through the 80's when the West Indies 4 fast men were carving up everyone. Also during the period when the Aussie Legends (Chappel, Lillee and Marsh) retired and the guts of the team either left for World Series Cricket or unsanctioned tours of South Africa. When no one else in Aussie cricket was worth shit he kept it afloat through his batting. Don was around when England was Australias Bunny and he played very little cricket against other nations. It is difficult to say who is best ever as players of different generations play in different conditions, against different opposition, etc.
