Hey all I reformatted the disk and installed XP SP2 directly off an XP CD with SP2 built in. Then went ahead with the typical steps :-
- Installed IIS
- Removed MSN explorer
- installed/updated Drivers
- VC 7.1
- VC 6
- Source Safe
- VPC 2004
- Utils (zip, pdf, acdsea, getright, logitech mouseware, google toolbar etc
- iso viewer
- office
- performed a full windows update
- anti virus
- configured firewall and enabled connection sharing
Looks okay so far :-) BTW while I still can't access any of the other machines in the LAN from the server machine, I can access the server machine from the other machines (it still wont show in "My network places" but if I do \\servername it comes up. Regards Nish

When I've tried using Norton in the past, I've had so many problems (including it trashing an XP installation) that I hurredly dumped it. I've been using AVG for about 3 years now, without a single crash or failure. Have to agree. I found Norton Antivirus practically killed my machine, it is such a heavy product. I, too, use AVG and have been very impressed. I use ZoneAlarm for my firewall. With XP SP2, I have noticed that the Security Console sometimes reports that "I might be at risk because my firewall is deactivated", when clearly ZoneAlarm is running - so I don't know what's going on there!! Have to agree. I found Norton Antivirus practically killed my machine, it is such a heavy product. I, too, use AVG and have been very impressed. I use ZoneAlarm for my firewall. With XP SP2, I have noticed that the Security Console sometimes reports that "I might be at risk because my firewall is deactivated", when clearly ZoneAlarm is running - so I don't know what's going on there!! NAV Professional 2002 did kill my machine (it was a new factory installation, and NAV was bundled with it on CD). After that, I swore never to give it another opportunity to do so. I always have a cd containing all the essentials I need. Nowadays I have an image of the OS (it worked well for my laptop) saves a lot of time. Norton ghost did the trick for me :-)

Can you share your experience with norton ghost. Planning to have one. But since not using any Norton products, wants to plunge into it only after hearing from someone using it.
