They list one of the enhancements as "Experience better overall performance for faster launch times and real-time zooming and panning". Having just used it, I must say it does seem to load faster. Here is a list of the other new features[^] Steve

from the Adobe website[^] you now get a preview of the 1st page of the document when you click on the file from Windows Explorer. There is also an extra tab (PDF) in the file properties window. :cool: One of my co-workers asked me about 10 minutes ago to whip up a program that had that feature - "ask and you shall receive" :-D Steve
I'm guessing this takes 15 mins to open up a document and takes about 30 mb of ram to stay open ? The very first time it launched I was horrified as it was taking longer, yes, longer than 6.0. But then on subsequent loads it just pops-up, not even time for a splash screen. I thought it might just be staying in memory but I rebooted and loaded it again, also very fast. I did not notice it in memory so I think they have listened to the complaints and really improved it. Just got done opening a bunch of PDFs and I agree - it does load faster. PDFs - even the heft Microsoft Patterns and Practices - load almost as fast as vanilla text files in Notepad (granted my home machine is a little on the slow side, but that'll change in a couple weeks when my Media Center arrives). Very nice. Seems like they're not loading the .api plug-ins until they're actually needed. I'm probably going to stick with 5.1. Most documents still open with that version, and it's miles faster than 6.0. On this POS computer (Duron 850, 512MB RAM, relatively slow HDD) it loads the "Improving .NET Application Performance and Scalability" guide in under 10 seconds on cold start (Reader not running). Only rarely do I get a 'this document may contain incompatible features' message and the document usually works anyway. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder
