Yeah it appears on Roids at the moment. :-) Maybe they fixed another bottle neck in the scripts. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)
ColinDavies wrote: Maybe they fixed another bottle neck in the scripts Ok, maybe I'm making a naive comment here, but here's a thought. First, I've been using code project for the last, i dunno, 3 years? maybe more. I do know that when i first joined (3 accounts ago) there were less than 100,000 users, and there are 1.6 million today. I realize Code Project is supported by its advertisers, etc, but why not let the community, with the leadership of Chris, and/or the other CP staff, build a new, open source site? As far as i know, there are people working on enhancements for the site, and i believe a new site (making assumptions here), but since CP is such a community focused site, it would be my guess that the community would be best suited to build a site to meet their needs. If there is already a project out there like this, let me know! I'd love to check it out. I'm by no means attacking any of the people who are maintaining, enhancing, or just using CP. I think CP is an excellent site, and I think CP has one of the best, most active communities you can find on the web. Especially when it comes to tech communities. just my 2 cents btw, this new found speed is fantastic! I hope it keeps up! Levi Rosol Blog By Levi[^] Two Rivers Marketing[^]

I got to CP quite early, and the site was soon revolutionary at that time in how well it worked. However since then the rest of the WEB has caught up and I think passed CP. Maybe Chris et al never expected CP to grow this big and have the scalability problems that to me it seems to have. I have heard rumours that the whole place will be moved to .NET, and I wonder if Chris etc think it is just around the corner and for that reason don't use another approach. After all it is just a website not a whole OS or anything. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

The Code Project is not a product, it's a service. I don't really see the benefits of making a service some kind of open source project. If you feel you have something to contribute to the Code Project, then submit an article, or send code directly to the staff in case you have something you believe could enhance the site. The phenomenal growth of the site is partly to blame for its reliability problems, but only partly. Whenever I have trouble reaching the site - most of the time, lately - I run a tracert on it. There are times when my local network is at fault, but they're rare. Most of the time, when a packet hits the telus network in Canada, the response times triple and timeouts occur. That's not in any way the fault of Chris et al, it's just a limitation of the infrastructure available in Canada. I'm quite certain that the CP staff have done their best to select the best available provider, and I'm willing to put up with delays and timeouts in exchange for the value that CP provides to me. Making CP into an open source project will in no way affect the product/service offerred, and I see no reason to change anything. CodeProject suits me as is, and I'm damned glad to have it, warts and all. "If it's Snowbird season, why can't we shoot them?" - Overheard in a bar in Bullhead City

Most of the time, when a packet hits the telus network in Canada, the response times triple and timeouts occur So why don't they relocate the servers outside of Canada if telus is the main culprit? "I think I speak on behalf of everyone here when I say huh?" - Buffy

Roger Wright wrote: Exactly. If the site is really that bad, why do 1.6 million people want instant access to it? The site is outstanding! It's the load times that suck. However, they are managable. Generally when i need CP, i open it, then i switch back to MSDN for a couple min, then back to CP and click a link, then back to MSDN, rinse and repeat... my suggestion for some sort of open source project would not be a silver bullet by any means. If it's the CA network causing slow times, then obviously finding a new host would be another upgrade. I was more curious as to what other people thought of the idea more than anything.
