Actually No! I think 100x120 is just right. Anything more and people will start posting their family albums featuring mom, dad, grandma and the cat and dog thrown in as well. Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain www.busterboy.org If you don't find me on CP, I'll be at Bob's HungOut

Bowing to popular demand (and also the fact that I've got a ton of boringh stuff I should be doing, but did this instead) you can now upload images that will be displayed in the 'who's who' pages, and next to your bio at the bottom of your articles. BTW - no abuse of this facility will be tolerated. Post a pic that is offensive, degrading or downright illegal and your account gets flagged as having no images allowed permanently. If the system is abused generally then it gets scrapped. "Don't you have more important things to be doing?" I hear you all cry. Yes. Yes I do. cheers, Chris Maunder

Cool :-) I went looking for a pic to upload, and realized I don't have very many pictures of myself (imagine that!). Most of the pictures that I do have of myself, my face was turned half sideways, too close to someone else, or are from a week long train trip I took last spring (meaning not the nicest). Not to say that the one I uploaded is the nicest, I'm sure  . In fact I thought I should explain the expression on my face. Long story short: I'm trying to contain my laughter  "No one knows what power lies yet undevelopped in that wiry system of mine." Ada Lovelace 1815-1852

That size isn't NEARLY big enough to get me *and* the goat into the shot. "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

100 x 120 fits nicely in the 'biography' section at the bottom of articles. For a JPG or GIF, 5-10Kb of that size is normal, but for a bitmap, 35Kb is about right. I still get article submissions where the image format is .bmp, so I'm allowing this format for those poor souls. cheers, Chris Maunder

Yes, Uncle Chris.... I'm still trying to get the ^%)(^$%) thing to work. I'm guessing it accepts my image and then finds it is bigger than 120 x 100 so does not show it. I'm at the point were I'm thinking a nose up shot might fit. Check out Norm Almond's image for an example why they should be bigger - I couldn't pick him out in a line up for any amount of money after looking at that. However, it is a very cool idea, regardless of what I percieve as an over limitation. About time I got a gander at these people I chat to every day. Now if people post for love advice, a quick check will allow the possibility that someone is just plain ugly :-) I was going to say you can check my profile to see that it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black, but sadly it still isn't uploading my image sucessfully. My image is now 66 x 83 ( I just remembered I *can* check image size in Windows Paint ). I'm getting an 'internal server error' whenever I try to update my settings... Chris, I think the pciture idea just may be the greatest thing you have ever done. We can now dispell the commonly held belief that there are no women programmers (or at least that there are no women which couldn't be mistaken for men, even in broad daylight). ;P James Spibey I love the word naked, it's brilliant isn't it, 'naked'. When I was a kid I used to write the word naked on a bit of paper hundreds of times and rub my face in it - Jeff, Coupling, BBC2

If you are about to upload a pic and you think 'I wonder if this will get me in trouble' then the chances are: yes, it will get you in trouble ;) I'm not sure about India, but in Australia and the US there are strict laws regarding offensive material on the net (certain types of pr0n, for instance). cheers, Chris Maunder

It's more or less a free-for-all here. Mostly out of curiosity, as I don't consider sex to be a spectator sport, I have done some random searches to see what could be found. The supply is limitless, for anyone with a valid credit card. Rather disgusting, I know, but there it is... I've never heard of a site being blocked by anyone, though some ISPs have internal policies forbidding certain types of content.

I think 150x150 is good enough. It's up to us to find a pic that is appropriate for that size restriction. Besides a picture that even has an identifiable image of the intended subject, the problem might actually be that some folks are using third-rate paint programs to make any adustments that might be needed. I use PaintShop Pro. The pic I posted is a crop of a larger photo, but Chris made it fairly easy on us. The max resoplution of the pic is *square*, so all we have to do is crop a picture so that the cropped area is square and resize the cropped area to 150 pixels. PaintShop pro makes this task almost brainless in it's simplicity. "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

Chris, I think this picture feature is awesome. We can now actually see who we are talking to. And sometimes a picture worth a thousand words. :) But there is a new little problem: multiple choices for Occupation and Interests fields are not saved anymore. Only first selections are saved. :( Thank you.
