This signature was created by "Code Project Quoter".Certainly one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The vast amount of energy necessary to move that much water so quickly and at such speed! We are indeed a spec on this big rock :omg: I hope nobody finds me insensitive for asking this - but apart from the wavefront itself (you could see some violent water movement on the shoreline in the second video), how does a huge water-swell like this kill so many? Do you get beat to death or unconcious by all the debri in the somewhat fast-moving water? Is the water moving so fast there's nothing you can do to keep afloat (like heavy river rapids)? Or are you less buoyant in moving water than still water (ie something you could tread water in)? my first reaction would have been to stay, not knowing when the water would stop rising ... and when the water started to be a bit too high, try to find a way up ... :(

Yeah, he probably did the right thing. But given the flight,fright,fight response that's usually seen it took some guts to do nothing and just hang around and climb on the nearest high place. The swedish data so far (reported today, don't now how many cases they have looked at) showed that very few die from drowning. As you mentioned they are actually beaten to death by the force of the oncoming water or as they hit something when being swept away.

Man has been shown his place in the universe by nature. Some people here say that they were at the beach and they saw a wave forming at a distance. As it approached the shore many knew this one was different because it didnt break like the others. It just kept rolling on inland. That was it - just one wave. In some videos I saw a "stacked wave" which seemed to be like a multistoried wave (3 - 4 breaks each 10-15 feet high, right on top of each other) Those who were near the waters edge probably were knocked unconscious (thereby rendered unable to hold on to anything or attempt swimming), others drowned. The receding waters also seemed equally dangerous, dragging all those standing into the sea.
