hi forum, I am a Computer Sciences student and I am going to developing my final research project... the problem is that i dunno what can i do!! Well, i would like to develop something related with security (criptography, certification, smart cards, ...) on the .NET platform. Could u give me any ideas for my project? ... ..or give links where i can get some ideas? Thanks in advance!!! Sergio.

Here you are, you've gone through 4+ years of college studying CS and other things, and you can't come up with an interesting final research project on your own??? What is it, do they beat all the creativity and imagination out of you guys? Do they keep you so isolated you have no idea how to use the Internet and see what other people are doing? Do you not have friends, teachers, advisers that you can ask for inspiration? Or, when you say "I dunno what can I do" you actually mean that after 4 years of college you haven't a clue how to do anything? Well, I'll take the approach I use with 5 year olds: "What do you think?" I have seen good enough students going through this phase and I think the real problem is not the scarcity of ideas but the Abundance of Ideas. One really feels that he has got too much ideas to isolate a single one, to concentrate on it and to start working on it. This is where a student needs some kind of experienced advice about current trends in technology and if someone is too career-oriented, then he seeks for something which is the current market trend. Here is my idea. What about encryption and decryption of packets across VPN. As data over VPN is normally going through a public network (in most cases internet), so why not encrypt and decrypt data at both ends to avoid any intrusion. :omg: Marc, you are very hard with me. I only was looking for things that were not done. Of course, I have friends and teachers for inspiration... I have used the Internet and I have seen what other people are doing...and I have got my own ideas too. I was looking for more ideas... I think you, programming experts, can give me great opinions. Cheers!

um... i may be wrong, but is vpn not supposed to automatically encrypt and decrypt for you anyway? i always thought that vpn is kinda like a secure pipeline going from your computer at home to the network at work, so that you have access to the network resources, and that it encrypts and decrypts your data that is being sent and received without you really noticing... -- Raoul Snyman Saturn Laboratories e-mail: raoul.snyman@saturnlaboratories.co.za web: http://www.saturnlaboratories.co.za/ blog: http://blog.saturnlaboratories.co.za/ linux user: #333298

I am not so sure but IMO, encryption in VPN is enabled only if both client and server are using IPSEC for communication between them. If a VPN session is carried over a normal TCP/IP protocol, then, there is no encryption except those normal private and public key encryptions which IMO are breakable. Again I am no cryptography or VPN expert, so correct me if I am wrong. What I wanted to say was that a system could be developed which should allow user to setup encryption policies easily by visual tools rather than doing it through scripting which is the available method already and is quite difficult. Off course, this can be enhanced further by adding your own encryption algos etc. Still Alone in this beautiful world :( My Articles

Hey, give the kid a brake. Maybe he is looking for something that has not been done already or something that is really needed. Here is an idea - what about writing a plug-in for Firefox that would allow .NET WinForms controls to run as they run in IE?
