WindowsUpdate

Had to reinstall a relo's computer as Windows 98 SE had done it's thing and had a heart attack. Installed Windows 98 SE and Norton SystemWorks and decided to do all the online updating. Hooked his PC to my Windows 2000 box via cross-over cable and enabled Internet Connection Sharing on my machine. I can get to any web page I like from his machine have successfully run LiveUpdate on the Norton stuff. But try and get WindowsUpdate to work. No way. I successfully get the ActiveX control downloaded, the available selections. I make the selections, click Download, click Download and then Yes I really have read and agreed to your fucking long winded EULA and it starts. Then after an indeterminate period of time it hangs. This is really pissing me off. Anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Yes I have looked at and followed the instructions in Knowledge Base article Q243787. This only addresses problems of connecting to the page not it hanging. Michael Martin Australia mmartin@netspace.net.au "Don't belong. Never join. Think for yourself. Peace" - Victor Stone

If you click on Read More, does it come up with the description of the fix or does it come up with Server not found? Richard.

It's never done anything different for me. Good to hear it works the same for you. ;P Michael Martin wrote: I can get to any web page I like from his machine have successfully run LiveUpdate on the Norton stuff. Yes, I had success with the Norton LiveUpdate this way as well, forget the Windows Update, it'll just give you the latest bugs anyhow, not happy with the current set of bugs eh. sonork ID: 100.9940

Hey, I think online updating is THE BEST think that can happen! If someone ever asks me "...my computer works wrong...", I always tell him/her to first visit http://windowsupdate.com and after that, a lot of things are working BETTER. -- See me: www.magerquark.de

When WindowsUpdate fails, a link to a Knowledge Base article on what procedures to follow to fix it, appears. The current problem I am facing is that the download of the updates freeze and nothing gets installed at all. Michael Martin Australia mmartin@netspace.net.au "Don't belong. Never join.
