Here is a list of instrumental Carnatic music (which originated in South India many centuries ago) http://www.musicindiaonline.com/l/3/i/[^] This person who plays the saxaphone is one of my favorite music artistes. He visited my college once for a concert and I've been hooked on him ever since http://www.musicindiaonline.com/l/3/m/instrument.16/[^] "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

I know one of the artists listed there - Subramaniam - I've got an old tape with album "Conversations" by Subramaniam and Grappelli, very interesting music, thanks for the links. :) Rado

You should try Indian music sometime. I think you'll find it different and melodious. "One of the Georges," said Psmith, "I forget which, once said that a certain number of hours' sleep a day--I cannot recall for the moment how many--made a man something, which for the time being has slipped my memory."

When going to indian restaurants, I like both the food and the music very much (although it is probably very "eurpeanized"). -- Affordable Windows-based CMS: www.zeta-producer.com

I think Mozilla has a pair of the coolest application icons with both Firefox and Thunderbird. What's your favorite application icon?

Some Indian music is cool - not to mention the videos which range from hilarious to "man, did you see the hips on that chick?" :-D And I also like western music influenced by Indian music (as well as Arabic, Chinese and Celtic music). Sadly, there's too little fusion between different music cultures. The result of such fusions are often very good! -- Komm tu mir langsam weh, leg mir die Ketten an und zieh die Knoten fest, damit ich lachen kann I blog too now[^]

          For Arabic/English fusions, check out:

          • Sting's "Desert Rose"
          • James Brown and Hakim's "Leila"
          • and Aerosmith (I believe) has a song influenced by Arabic music)

Also, check out Tarkan's "Simarik" which is the original Turkish version of the English song Stella Soleil's "Kiss Kiss". I've looked around for music that mixes some African or Asian sounds with Western, too. Most of what I've found is heavily electronic, but I'm finding more. A great one that fuses African and Celtic is Afro-Celt Sound System. Some other groups I like are: Dzihan & Kamien(Middle East/Jazz/Trip-Hop), Banco de Gaia(Middle East/Asian/Techno), Kazu Matsui(New Age/Japan), Geoffrey Oryema(African/Pop), Recently, I've been listening to the Soundtrack of "House of Flying Daggers" by Shigeru Umebayashi. Really good. [edit] Not a fusion, but I just remembering aconcert of saw a year or so ago. Kodo Drummers[^] a traditional Japanese Taiko group. Absolutely amazing! Nothing but percussion, but I was blown away. They have several CDs available, though I haven't listened to any yet. (I don't want anything to ruin my concert experience  ) BW

I like the Office 2003 icons. They may not be 16,000 colours and animated to look like a DVD but they are nice and clean and straightforward.

Used to be a big fan of Goa Trance myself, which used to have quite a few Indian infuences in it (originating in GOA and all...), to bad it's morphed so far away from its roots now. Ahwell.
