I was evaluating stuff from codejock.com. Check this out. Do you folks feel that doing something like this is acceptable marketing practice? Stuff that bothers me 1) Specific samples are shown. Those samples could actually be showing additional features. For example the double gripper (that is shown in the Outlook Stingray sample) could be an additional feature of the Stingray package. 2) It puts down the other products without giving the user any real technical comparison. I am all for technical contrast but this sucks. Any thoughts? Regards, Suresh

They should not comment on the other products but rather expose their. That is, it is OK to have all the screenshots just as they are, but instead of pointing out the other's bugs they should say what CodeJock does right or does better than others. For example instead of saying the Stingray's buttons are not centered they should point out that CodeJock buttons are centered etc. It comes down to the same, but makes much better impression.
You're absolutely right - it's the same principle as when I was a sales rep, I NEVER rubbished my competition, I just talked up what we could do. Christian I have come to clean zee pooollll. - Michael Martin Dec 30, 2001

While we're on the subject does anyone have any experience of (or links about) converting a CJLibrary (6.09) project to BCGControlBar? I'm thinking of converting ResOrg, but haven't got around to it yet... Andy Metcalfe - Sonardyne International Ltd

OK. Let me explain. I was using CodeJock's library when it was freeware and I was happy with that. But it is no longer freeware. Because of this, I tried other libraries and loved BCGControlBar. Because it is much easier to use and the support is great. They also offer big discounts to shareware authors and they offer if for free for freeware authors. This is really really a good behaviour ;) CodeJock's library was also a good library but the support was not as good as BCG's support. Anyway, I loved BCGControlBar and looking foward to purchase the professional version ;) Kind regards Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com Sonork ID 100.9935:zoltrix

Actually, to put my 2 cents in defense of the comparison page, the reason this was added was because of a request from one of our potential customers to see the cosmetic differences between the Xtreme Toolkit, Dundas and Stingray. Nothing more or less was intended here, if it offends to this extent, then perhaps we can remove it, however I didn't see how it would offend anyone (other than Stingray and Dundas) :-D The only reason BCG was not added in comparison was because their controls are drawn similar in nature to Dundas and Stingray, and is not as visually accurate in comparison to the original Office products. To address the concerns mentioned earlier: 1. Our support, product and customer relations, they have greatly improved over the past year. 2. We do offer discounts for shareware and academic use (up to %40). We have always extended these kind of discounts on each purchase, Considering the price of the product ($199-$299) I think this an excellent product for a fraction of the cost. You don't have to take my word for it; you can download the Dundas, Stingray, BCG and Xtreme Toolkit evaluations and do your own comparisons, when you have decided what you like best than use it. :-D Cheers, Kirk Stowell Codejock Software http://www.codejock.com

Hi Kirk, Sorry if I was rude, but I just wrote my opinions ;) I tried your product about 1.5 years ago (My program, WinScheduler was using CJLibrary 6.09) and there may be many improvements. CJLibrary was really a good library. But , it is too late for me to change the library I am using for Macro Angel :( And I am really happy with BCGControlBar. PS: One of the biggest advantage of BCGControlBar is that it started supporting .NET like interface nearly 8-10 months ago. PPS: The new features of the professional version of BCGLibrary are really very appealing. Kind regards Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com Sonork ID 100.9935:zoltrix

Hi Mustafa, No harm, no foul! ;) BTW - I went ahead and removed the screen shots that exposed all of the cosmetic flaws with Dundas and Stingray products (ahem -- wouldn't want to offend anyone  ). Also, I notice that you mention you cannot wait for the pro ver, if you like what you see in that you will love our up comming 2.0 release! Everything the pro version has x2! And without the $300 price hike... :-D Warm regards! Kirk Stowell Codejock Software http://www.codejock.com

Great! I am looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for your kind response ;) PS: The author of BCGControlBar is also a CPian. Now I learned that you are also a CPian with a very very cool id: 126. This means that I will surely be an XTremeToolkit fan very soon :) :) Kind regards Mustafa Demirhan http://www.macroangel.com Sonork ID 100.9935:zoltrix
