The current thread on the DOTNET list is talking about Don Box joining MS. Given that the guy is a living legend of COM what do you guys think about this? I think it's the same as with the C++ guy who co-worked with Stroustrup they aquired some months ago: They "buy" them to show the people that they care about the current technology (COM, C++), just in order to burry these guys in their cellar and then pushing their new technology (.NET, C#). -- See me: www.magerquark.de

Don is a very clever bloke and Microsoft like to hire the best. Not sure he'd fit in at MS as he likes to do things his own way. (Hence his trouserless lecture at Tech Ed 2000 in Amsterdam) Michael :-)

During the conference he got into trouble with Microsoft for the clothes he was wearing. Some marketing pratt told him to only wear the Microsoft Shirt whilst giving his talks. So for his final session he did as he was asked and wore only a Microsoft Shirt. Michael :-)

Well, how much C++ stuff have you heard from lipman since he was sucked into the MS void? Not a freakin word. The only publicly acknowledged thing he's said was something about how .NET was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Box is gonna be coerced and brainwashed the same way. Nobody knew. He stood behind a podium for the entire session and then came out from behind it at the end. His COM dance in one of his previous sessions was the coolest thing at the conference. Michael :-)
