I just got a phishing scam email asking me to verify the details of my Barclays account. But I realised it was a fake just in time... I was almost convinced for a moment... My mouse was hovering over the link.... poised to press the button.... But at the last moment I realised what I was about to do and stopped. What gave away the phisherman? I spotted a spelling error : De‮ra‬ Barclays M‮me‬ber, T‮sih‬ em‮lia‬ was s‮ne‬t by the Ba‮lcr‬ays ser‮ev‬r to v‮re‬ify y‮ruo‬ e‮am‬il ad‮serd‬s. Only very very very rarely I actually will click on a message...these people are very good -- but usually 9 times out of 10 it goes to some site with an IP address in the URL bar instead of a domain name, so it's kind of obvious -- most genuine emails will take you to a site where the URL has a domain name -- but of course not even that is foolproof. Yes, I know that. I was trying to make a joke about the bad spelling - but different programs interpreted the message source differently so that joke fell flat.

I had one of those last week. It was pretty good, but i dont have a barclays account so i clicked on it anyway to have a look. It looks like it goes to some dodgy url then redirects to what i am quite sure is the legit Barclays website while at the same time opening a pretty crappy window asking for account details and passcode. As it does open the legit website i am quite sure this one would have fooled a lot of people. I put some random Obscenities into each field and clicked submit. Jon
