The problem is: in Brazil, this is a crime, and you can go to jail for up to 5 years if you do this. Actually, most people end up condemned to only 6 months in jail and pay a fine of half-an-year of wage. To make things clear: cursing and insulting a person here will never send you to jail (people do it everyday in heavy traffic), but if you use racial insults you will go to jail. Actually, monkey racist references are not a wise thing here, since 80% of the police force is black. Probably you’ll get a very special monkey treatment when they take you to jail. How would calling someone a monkey be a reference to his/her skin color? Monkeys come in all kinds of colors, don't they? Moreover monkeys are our cousin-species too - so it's not like calling someone a frog or a rhino or something. Nish

I never understood why anyone would hate somebody with another skincolor of faith or whatever, but I also fail to see why calling a black man "chocolate man" or something like that, has to do with racism, if off course, you say it in anger or a fight. My experience tells me that black men, white men, or any man, is an equal racist. A black man will call us whity or white boy, ... (fill in here) just the same as we call them names. It's only racism if you go to a stranger in the street and calling him names for no reason. (then it doesn't even matter what you name him) If the two soccer players had a fight for something that has to do with soccer, why would it be 'racism'? We al say things we regret later on. No hurries, no worries.

Same goes for sweden. Although you would most likely not end up in jail for it.. You might go to jail 1-2 years for rape and 10 years for fiddling with your taxes.. Anyway , on the same topic. Here in sweden we have had an ice cream called "Nogger" for years (Nogger is not a swedish word so i guess its just a name) Now the same company released a licorice version of it called "Nogger Black" Now Swedish anti racists claim the its a rasist name. Although racial and religious insults can end up in court, there are exceptions. It is "okay" legally (although I disagree with the laws) for native american racial slurs. There was even a campaign in 2004, campaigning against the "dogs" candidate. However, I dare anyone to go down to Compton, Watts, South Central, etc... and make one against african americans; You will no dount leave there either dead or very close to dead. Finally, regarding the argentenian player, I don't think any charges should be pressed against him. After all, when you're in the heat of the battle within a soccer field almost anything goes, especially when you're talking about Brazil vs Argentina. In the US, you can call anyone whatever you want. The government won't put you in jail. Of course, most people will look down on you if you use racial slurs. Not polite of course, and I haven't heard it for awhile, but it wouldn't be considered racist unless harassing behaviour were involved.
