"They pull me back in..." Al Pacino in the Godfather III. Who oh why do I keep getting into flame wars with the Linux crowd? Why am I so unable to read a line of Open source FUD and let it be? X| "MS claims they invented SOAP" the line read. I failed to let it slide
X| "I BSOD WinXP at least twice a day" said another. I went for the jugular
X| "Windows developers are VB developers and therefore know nothing about writing good code". I dived in.
X| "C# is a java imitation. I love java but C# sucks". Yet it's a clone... riiiiight. Had to get him.
X| "Linux is more secure than Winblows, you just have to look at how Winblows viruses there are out there" you get the idea
etc etc ad infinitum. So I'm fooling around one day searching for my name on google and my name comes up on the ZDNET talkback forums. And there I am arguing foolishly, lamely, hopelessly. How embarrassing. I was as incoherent as the same people against whom I was frothing at the mouth. I think from now on I should browse Slashdot and LinuxToday minus my keyboard. This isn't a rant or rave. I just noticed that I have never seen any of your names (or their obvious variants) on any of these sites where I am dragged into battle. How do you do it? This may have nothing to do with your stituation but it make me think of my two teens (one girl and one boy). They love to tweak each other. The girl is much better at it and the boy has a little temper so the combination is just right. A few days ago I had had enough and demanded that they stop. The boy says , but Dad can't we have some fun:) and he was getting creamed. They were loving the game.

I used to post and get into flame wars a lot. But then all of the sudden, I started to get incredible ammounts of spam (200-1000 a day). Not only on my alias email, but on all 3 of them. I was lucky they didn't find my work email. I closed all 3 of them, and got my self a new one. And vowed not to post again with that one. Now I limit my self, and don't post or reply to anyone who is not old enough to buy a beer Or hasn't lived out in the "Real World" yet. (Doesn't know what making a buck means). Rodrigo.

Yes, that's a good approach. The thing is, I am actualy quite interested in Linux and do learn something fromm reading Open Source code. But the amount of disinformation that goes on in these forums is astounding and I tend to behave in a knee jerk sort of way. But from now on I'll try and live and let live :-) Regards Senkwe Just another wannabe code junky

Besides programming on Windows, I've gotten in to PalmPilot programming. Unfortunately, most all of the source code examples I find are on SourceForge.net, an Open Source site that obviously caters to Unix users. Everything is compressed in tar balls, for one. I've never trusted their forums enough to ask questions there (and thus, my occasional, and hopeful, Palm programming question here). I did notice those kinds of comments, and felt like replying a few times, but never did. I have enough fun here. :-D Jamie Nordmeyer Portland, Oregon, USA

I think there must be a definite (and rather unfortunate if not slightly humorous) cultural difference here between you yanks and us brits (you know - we're the people with the sense of humor that live accross the atlantic from you). Yes go on, check the map - we are really there! Michael A. Barnhart wrote: a. To defeat overwhelmingly: creamed our rival on their home court. b. To damage severely; destroy: My camera got creamed when I dropped it. Say (a) in britain and you will be called a pervert, say (b), and you'll be called wierd, just plain wierd. "creamed" is taken largely without exception to mean "blown-off" (in my best attempt at a universally accepted analogy); i.e. the process of being felated by another person. E.g.: "George was creamed last night". The best I can tell it is not merely local to britian anyway, as at least one south african also drew the same interpretation that I did. Michael A. I try to limit my self to friendly forums like CP (windows friendly). If some linux kid pops in trashing windows I may throw a punch or two but basically I see it this way, eventually they will see they have chosen an inferior OS and when they realize this they will feel hypocritical.
