How embarrassing. I was as incoherent as the same people against whom I was frothing at the mouth. I think from now on I should browse Slashdot and LinuxToday minus my keyboard. This isn't a rant or rave. I just noticed that I have never seen any of your names (or their obvious variants) on any of these sites where I am dragged into battle. How do you do it? Yes, that's a good approach. The thing is, I am actualy quite interested in Linux and do learn something fromm reading Open Source code. But the amount of disinformation that goes on in these forums is astounding and I tend to behave in a knee jerk sort of way. Unfortunately, most all of the source code examples I find are on SourceForge.net, an Open Source site that obviously caters to Unix users. Everything is compressed in tar balls, for one. I've never trusted their forums enough to ask questions there (and thus, my occasional, and hopeful, Palm programming question here). I think there must be a definite (and rather unfortunate if not slightly humorous) cultural difference here between you yanks and us brits (you know - we're the people with the sense of humor that live accross the atlantic from you).
