How to call an ASP.NET function from Javascript

I have to implement a task in which I have a .js file containing Javascript functions, each one must call an ASP.NET function. The query string sloved this problem, but now I have some functions that have return values that depend on the ASP.NET functions execution So... - How can I get a value from an ASP.NET function to be the return value of the Javascript function - And how can I force the Javascript function to stop its progress until the ASP.NET function completes and gives me the value Please help...
