I just came back a terrific conference in San Diego, and had some good quality time to enjoy the beach and ocean air. No wonder it costs so much to live there. If I could afford it, I think I would :) Where is the place you would want to live, if only you could afford to?

Hawaii. (Funny thing is, until about eight years ago I had dismissed Hawaii as being overhyped. Then I did a film project on the North Shore of Oahu and stayed there a week in a house on the beach. I fell in love with the place. I still plan on going there for retirement since I've been told by many people with direct experience that it's not a good place to raise teenagers.) The San Diego area is a very close second, though I'd probably choose to live in one of the towns around San Diego rather than inside the city. I remember when I moved to Las Cruces from the east coast and all I could see was beige .. beige beige beige .. but after living there for 4 years I must admit you begin to notice there are many many shades of beige .. there is green beige, red beige, pink beige, etc. I've since moved back east and I must admit I miss the night sky and watching storms come over the organ mountains ... but I still hate beige :-D

I lived in San Diego for 15 years, and saw the rolling hills turn into housing trak developements, traffic congestion skyrocket, and the citizens vote for a new baseball stadium instead of a new library. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm happy living in Rhode Island, and at the end of this month we're moving to an even more rural location in New York. I like being able to hear silence, as opposed to the incesent sound of traffic. I like being able to go on bike rides without being crushed by buses and motorists or being forced to go biking in "parks". I like being able to take hikes in the countryside without driving an hour or more through El Cajon to get to the mountains. And frankly, I like the seasons. Yes, even shoveling snow. But, I must say, one thing I don't like are the ticks. Marc My website

Near a city, but not in it, i dislike city life (im in Reading at uni) i prefer my home town, small, but near other places such as bournemouth, and not too far from the beach, lesure somplex etc. http://www.guardian.co.nr

I actually like where I live in Upstate South Carolina. Great day-to-day living, close to the mountains, a few hours from the beach, Atlanta and Charlotte are close enough for the rare city fix. Basically, the grass is green enough for me right here. :) BW

Same, but I no longer like driving in ice/snow, totally out of practice. And yes we did get 1.5 inches last winter down here! Just took a days vacation and let the crazies have their way. So the descriminator for me will be where my kids wind up. If my ship comes in it will be in the country probably East Texas assuming the kids stay in state. Quite, hills and trees, not a lot of hustle. If they move out then further north, but in Trees and rolling hills. A stream for my own little hydro-electic plant would be a bonus. I do not mind getting old. It beats all the other options that I can think of.

grey beige, pale and dark beige, and even beige beige. White sands is really a white beige, you notice it when you get up close, and the salt-grass in white sands proper is a yellow-beige. I still get storms coming over the organ mountains, great sunsets, spectacular sunrises, and lately 55-75mph gusting dust storms that turns the sky beige too. ;) _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I've always thought it was more between French and Spanish. Well, I suppose it is also a romance language along with Italian, Gallego and others which I've found that I can often tell the broad subject of if not the detail.

I already moved back to Austin, though Boulder/Estes Park would be really sweet.
