No wonder they want to live there

I've always thought it was more between French and Spanish. Well, I suppose it is also a romance language along with Italian, Gallego and others which I've found that I can often tell the broad subject of if not the detail.

I just came back a terrific conference in San Diego, and had some good quality time to enjoy the beach and ocean air. No wonder it costs so much to live there. If I could afford it, I think I would :) Where is the place you would want to live, if only you could afford to?

I already moved back to Austin, though Boulder/Estes Park would be really sweet.

San Diego is great. I don't live too far from there[^] (about 2 hours usually), and have spent a bit of time there since moving to LA. As somebody else in this thread mentioned, the Gaslamp Quarter is really fun if you like nightlife, then there is Tijuana (as well as Rosarito and Ensenada) if you like "interesting" trips to Mexico. There's also a large number of beaches, but I don't live too far from the beaches where I live (20 miles), so that's not a huge factor. All in all San Diego is just a really fun city, and there always seems like there's stuff to do there. Where did you go while you were there? As far as totally completely unrealistic places, I think it would be really nice to live somewhere on the Mediterranean, maybe in one of those cool little stereotypical towns you see in Italy (the ones on the side of some hill, right on the sea). I lived in San Diego for 15 years, and saw the rolling hills turn into housing trak developements, traffic congestion skyrocket, and the citizens vote for a new baseball stadium instead of a new library. Thanks, but no thanks. I'm happy living in Rhode Island, and at the end of this month we're moving to an even more rural location in New York. I like being able to hear silence, as opposed to the incesent sound of traffic. I like being able to go on bike rides without being crushed by buses and motorists or being forced to go biking in "parks". I like being able to take hikes in the countryside without driving an hour or more through El Cajon to get to the mountains. And frankly, I like the seasons. Yes, even shoveling snow. But, I must say, one thing I don't like are the ticks. Marc My website

Living here in San Diego is awesome. I really don't want to move anywhere else. As has already been mentioned, there really is always something to do here. I never fully grasped how much goes on here and how fast it all goes until I visited some relatives in the South. Everything's slower and there's not always a whole lot to do.

My brother was stationed in San Diego for 4 years (United States Marine Corp). He just moved home about 6 months ago and is already contemplating going back. I told him he should stay in SD but he wanted to move back to Connecticut for some reason. I went to college in Boston and now live in New Jersey (Bergen County) and I do not think San Diego is as expensive as either. I still wish I went out to visit him atleast once, I regret it now. P.S. I am posting for the first time with Shogs Quick Reply, its great nice work!!!!
You could always just vacation here in San Diego. If you're worried about not having anyone to tell you what's fun to see, I'd be happy to give you a list of things you should do while you're here. :)

I think you can build a temple to Bill Gates in Trivandrum instead! Incidentlly, you get rain only during the monsson season in Kerala, about 5 months a year. It rains round the year in Seattle and neighborhoods.

Couple of different times. Once in April I think. But still San Diego beats any other city in terms of what it has to offer. But people have to spoil it all by actually moving there!

Actually, I am already living there. I was born and lived most of my life in Southern Oregon. For five years I lived in Ohio and browsed around the east coast for a bit. Liked North Carolina (around Ashville), but way too humid for a west coast mountain boy, do not like living in a sauna. At current, I live in a small city called Klamath Falls, Oregon. The population is around 60,000 including 10 miles of the surrounding area. The nearest city of any size is Medford Oregon at a few hundred thousand in population just 85 miles over the 5,000 ft summit (can be a pain in winter at times). We have a low crime rate and broadband.. While that is enough to sustain me :), we also have beautiful mountains (some snow capped most of the years), mostly clean water and air, fish (that you can actually eat without worrying you will grow strange body parts or glow in the dark) filled rivers, desert near by along with the wonderful Oregon Coast less than 200 miles away. All this and you actually can experience all four seasons with very low humidity levels in the summer. If I remember correctly, we are over 300 sunny days per year to boot. The actual city I would like to live in is just north a few miles from here called Oakridge. It is a small city of a few hundred people which is more my liking, but no broadband yet ;) Here is a site for a fairly new development area around the edge of our main like (Klamath Lake): http://runningy.com[^] The link has a photo tour of a couple pictures around this area. If a person likes the outdoors with clean air, clean water, mountains, rivers and huge forests, this is a great place to live! Rocky <>< My Blog[^]

The conference I attended was at the Marriott on the marina... friends of mine rented a beach house along Ocean Front Walk and I got to spend several hours there - a good enough time to let the change of scene infuse me. It was great. For such a short trip, I felt like I got a lot of quality out of San Diego. :)
