I like the idea of a money clip (I don't really need space for sweetheart/kid/wife photos) but do any carry plastic? I carry cash in a money clip (also local artisan), and plastic, discount cards, frequent traveler stuff, etc. are all you find in the wallet. I also have had my wallet stolen. This way all they get are credit cards, which although I am concerned about, not as concerned. It was in the back pocket of my baggies. The pocket has a clip but I had not fastened it. I was carrying my camera slung over my back which probably made me a target and I was in a busy store with lots of jostling and bumping people about. I remember someone bumping my camera quite hard at one point and apologising but I did not turn around (I was more concerned about my camera than my wallet and it felt fine. Checking for my wallet did not even occur to me). I assume that is when it happened. I only found out 10 minutes later when reaching for my wallet to pay for a cappucino. Ah well. All I lost is some 'ash and a few minutes on the phone cancelling cards and ordering new ones. I read an article by a reformed pick-pocket who says it's most difficult to pick wallets from the back pocket of your trousers. I'm predominantly right-handed and drive to work so I carry my wallet in my left side pocket, but if I'm going by bus or to a crowded place I make it a point to keep it in my back pocket. A quick google on [money clip card case] showed you still can find them, but none with much photo capability. I have never had one myself, not my style but it does seem practical. On a related note, I got tired of losing my keys so I purchased a belt clip for them so I always were them on my belt. So my wallet got lifted last night at a local grocery store and I need a replacement. For the last many years I have been using a decent cloth Billabong wallet. My only complaint is that the plastic card holder invariably tears after a few weeks use. The rest of the wallet is great though. I feel the need for change though, something to satisfy my consumerist nature. Something slimmer maybe, less bulky but still able to hold some 'ash, plastic and photos of my sweetheart you know. Yeah, you can't beat the London Underground's ticket holders. They're thin, they're free, and they're covered in funky advertising for Yellow Pages (well, they were in my day...) Space to put your (or your bird's) photo, space for the obligatory pieces of plastic, but none for coinage. Heck, that's waht a pocket is for! And as for satisfying your consumerist nature, heck, everyone in London's got one! :P

I was told that wallets made of shark skin are pick-proof. I have seen them in the US. Don't know if they have them in SA. Good luck!

Hi Paul. Sorry to hear that. I had a Mexican friend who went to Milan last year. Now, he's from Mexico City and is used to dealing with this sort of thing (pickpockets). So he gets off the train at Milano Centrale and exits onto the large piazza in front of the station. Gazing around abit, his view is interrupted by a kindly old lady who appears lost. She whips out a map and asks if he can help. Speaking both Spanish and Italian he offers. She thanks him and heads off. He goes to the McDonald's across from the station (he's hungry) and goes for his wallet. Gone. Gets nervous. Searches all his pockets. Empty. No passport, wallet or anything. Cleaned out. Recalls that while helping this old lady she was quite close to him and bumped him a few times. She cleaned him out. Took him weeks to get everything settled. Speaking of wallets and money, I was just looking at this keyboard I'm typing on and I can't find the dollar sign key!! It's an ACER European (Swiss German) board. Switzerland: of all places in the world not to have the dollar sign key :doh:
[EDIT] odd.... This was supposed to be a reply to John's Message[^] [/EDIT] That's a common ploy in Spain as well. I've been aware of a few attempts as well. But, I keep my wallet in a pocket that even I find difficult to get at, so I'm hoping that a pick pocket has no chance.
