Latest Microsoft patch deleted my user account

:mad: Last night the Windows XP Prof (SP2) on my desktop got latest patch[^] from Microsoft via Automatic Update, which deleted my user account. :doh: When I checked this morning, the machine got rebooted and I saw popup balloon mentioning 'new updates were installed, so it rebooted the machine'. Surprise thing is it logged into the machine as 'Administrator'. I can logoff from the 'Administator' acccount but I can't login as my user account. When I logged back in to the machine as 'Administrator', I didn't see my user account in the User Accounts. :wtf: All I see is 'Administrator', 'SQLDebugger' and 'Guest' accounts (under Control Panel -> User Accounts) When I tried to add new user account (same as my earlier account), I got an error 'The account already exists'. X| But I see my user account information under 'Documents and Settings' folder. :confused: I appreciate any help..:sigh:

This signature was created by "Code Project Quoter".You'll find that kind of effect if your account has been locked. This could happen if you (or maybe some software) tries to log on against cached account information (i.e. your domain controller is not accessible) with the wrong password more than 3 (?) times. This happened to me recently, but in my case I simply had accidentally used the old password. The fix involved driving 26 miles through London suburbia so that I could access the domain controller on its own network, reboot, log on, done. Account restored.

if an update can delete a user, it may also decide to delete all your bookmarks or --even-- reformat the entire hard drive! You know ... to make the OS more secure :suss: Kind of like HAL 9000 getting rid of the humans who might jeopardize the mission :omg:
