Hello This is my first post on The Code Project. I joined yesterday. I am a friend of Nish. I am basically a VB/ASP programmer. I've seen Nish spending half his day on The Code Project. I always wanted to join, but was a little hesitant because I understand this is primarily a site for C++ and MFC. But Nish said that won't be a problem at all. So here I am. I hope Nish won't tease me. Smitha

This particular one I've known since she was one year old, and she is absolutely set upon marrying me when she's older. I've explained to her that as she grows up, her taste in men will improve:laugh: But I still love spending time with her whenever I can - her 'real' dad wants nothing to do with her (how sad!), but I'm happy to know that her new stepdad is turning out to be a great father! It couldn't hurt for her to have me around for a spare, though...

Roger Wright wrote: One of my favorite passtimes is rather "girlie" - beading Have you tried out glass painting ??? If not, try it out. All you need is a pattern[which you can download from the net and print out], a piece of glass of reqd size and paints of reqd colors. The paints are available in ready to use bottles, all you have to do is squeeze the bottle n spread the paint on the glass surface. With very little effort, you can make wonderful gifts for your friends... Smitha
I've never tried it, but it sounds a bit like the stained glass my ex-wife used to play with. I have little artistic talent, though, and find that crafts related to the woodsman arts are more suited to me. I used to participate in a hobby called Buckskinning here - the historical re-enactment of the 1780- 1820 fur trade era in America - and learned to make everything a trapper/trader could need from raw materials. Though I can no longer afford the cost or time for it, I still dabble. One part I like, relating to my lack of artistry, is the Indian (Amerind, that is) tradition that it is an insult to World Maker for a mortal to make a perfect thing - only He is perfect. The Cree have a tradition that one should always include an error in whatever one constructs so as to avoid annoying Him. Errors of this sort come naturally to me. Micro$oft is known to practice this belief, as well...

Nish [BusterBoy] wrote: admitted his love for VB It's not quite that intimate, Nish, more a fondness than a 'love' relationship. When I was growing up, the trend in programming was to make languages more maintainable by making them more easily understood. C++ set this trend back by at least twenty years with its ridiculous syntax and utterly meaningless notation. Pascal was at the top of this food chain of maintainable, understandable code, but failed to make the leap into the OOP arena and died. VB still isn't fully OO yet, but at least a normal human being stands a chance of interpreting it correctly without an advanced degree in the subject. And the IDE is actually visual - there's nothing 'visual' about Visual C++.
