As someone who's native language is Dutch I must confess that Afrikaans is probably the most funny variant of Dutch in centuries.

Nish [BusterBoy] wrote: It is a tribal language? Yes it is. Xhosa is also an African tribal language. There are lots of them, much like Europe. Nish [BusterBoy] wrote: I thought thats what Klusener spoke. And he does not look tribal to me. Well, Zulu (Klusener's nickname), can speak Zulu and English (and probably Afrikaans too.) He is English and was brought up not far from where I was brought up, in Natal, South Africa. The Zulu tribe used to cover most of Southern Africa but they are now mainly in Natal. So he is brought up in an English and Zulu land. So he picked up Zulu, a tribal language. Klusener is not a Zulu or a black, he is a white African like me brought up in the English manner. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa "The greatest thing you will ever learn is to love, and be loved in return" - Moulin Rouge Sonork ID: 100.9903 Stormfront

Hence why most Dutchmen call Afrikaans "die Kombius Taal." I never did well in the Afrikaans language at school and frankly it is not of much use as it is only spoken in South Africa (and in Putney in London where the population is 90% South Africans.) regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa "The greatest thing you will ever learn is to love, and be loved in return" - Moulin Rouge Sonork ID: 100.9903 Stormfront

The OS would have buggered off to Mauritius after the compiler paid it to buy weapons from the USB port. The police force would have stood idely around locking up anyone who pocked their noses into the deal. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa "The greatest thing you will ever learn is to love, and be loved in return" - Moulin Rouge Sonork ID: 100.9903 Stormfront

In my high school years in Ukraine (former Soviet Union) we actually used the "algorythmic language" which looked like Нач Если (a > b) то Вых Иначе Печ "message" Кон (I'm not sure this cyrillic text is readable for all) Later at university, we had a very old computer (SM 1420) with Russian OS where you could type English commands using Russian alphabet. That was most funny :) Volodya Orlenko, orlenko [at] hotmail [dot] com

While not a 100% correct (I'm not a linguist) Afrikaans is a lot like some Dutch dialects as it was spoken several hundred years but Afrikaans has skipped a number of gramatical reforms that modern Dutch experienced. Compared to Dutch it also had a lot less influences from other European languages (minus English) which resulted in some very original but highly amusing words.

Thinking of how .NET framework can be applied to a whole bunch of languages, how about Microsoft add support for these:- Visual Perl .NET Modula 2 .NET Visual French .NET any other ideas? We could also make now new template libraries... We've got ATL, WTL etc, hows about KTL (Kindergarten Template Library)? we could all draw round them. Sorry to dissapoint you all with my lack of a witty or poignant signature.
