fiat had problems with its tipo model in finland (?) there it means stupid-man there are people living from new good product names creation only f.e. author of pentium word has to be not poor t!
Mitsubishi had problems with their Pajero model here, in Spain. It's called Montero here. I don't think I could say the meaning of Pajero in Spanish without being censored. :-O

Years ago I read a story of a car-maker who targeted the Mexican market with a model called Nova, Apparently the name can be broken apart as "No va", My spanish isn't good enough to verify this. :-) Regardz Colin J Davies

If you can't dazzle them with your brilliance, baffle 'em with your bullsh*t P J Arends 0 = ( ( x^2 - (x-1)^2 ) + (x-1)^2) * ( (x-1)^2 + ( x^2 - (x-1)^2 ) ) - x^4 x != 0 0 = sqrt( x^2 - (x-1)^2 ) - 5
You're right. "No va" means "It doesn't go". Quite a bad name for a car. :-)

I just saw an ad for Boca brand sausages. "boca" means "mouth" in Spanish, so you can imagine the rest of my thought process.... ;) --Mike-- "There are only a limited number of jobs where they will ask to see the sausage. Sinner. ;P Reminds me of a few years ago when I was walking through the local mall. They had this Hickory Farms-type store with a bunch of sausage on display. One of the brands had a funny slogan: "<Company Name>: Purveyors of Fine Sausage" Now if that doesn't invoke inappropriate thoughts... Jon Sagara What about :bob:? Sonork ID: 100.9999 jonsagara

It's true. Vauxhall/Opel (GM european brands) made the Nova. In the UK they called it that. But it was branded Corsa in europe becuase "No Va" means no-go in spanish. and sort of in french too. Sorry to dissapoint you all with my lack of a witty or poignant signature.

No, "tipo" doesn't mean anything in Finnish. "Uuno" does mean "stupid-man", but I haven't heard about sales problems for Fiat Uno caused by that.
uno, sorry i red finland was very unsuccesful market for this model comparing to others t!

How about the Rolls Royce Silver Mist? In germany... well, I think they had good reason to change it! ________________ David Wulff http://www.davidwulff.co.uk "I loathe people who keep dogs. They are cowards who haven't got the guts to bite people themselves" - August Strindberg

No Va = "No Go" I had a list of about 50 "bad names" when I was in college advertising class.
