Why does anyone harp about speed issues anymore? Java is interpreted, but the CPUs and RAM today are so ridiculously fast that it hardly seems to be an issue! Back when we thought a 1 MHz clock was smokin' it definitely would have been noticable - real time stuff was written in assembly for that reason, but these new machines we take for granted are awesome... I can think of a few applications where C++ would be preferable to Java, but not many. And a language that is simpler to code is likely to have fewer errors, given all other factors remain the same. I vote "Simple."

I think for my next project I'll build a MBASIC interpreter using Java; Since the target machine will be a Cray, maybe I'll do the JVM for it in C#. Seems appropriate. I can use Netscape for the text output, and vi for the IDE.
