I live in the UK, so guns are an alien culture to most of us. In the UK to be broken down anywhere at 4 a.m. is unlikely to be a problem, anyone approching you would most likely only want to help you. As in all countries that is not 100% guaranteed but the chances of coming to any harm a miniscule.

But your crime rate (and gun crime) is rising. All this allows is a person the chance to protect themselves. Call 911 and wait for them to arrive. When they do arrive it is too late. It is a miniscule chance that a person with a peermit will ever have to use it but when they do it allows them to go home tot their family. If they do not have it their family will proably be without that person. given a chance to continue to provide for my family I will do so. Remember that office shooting in boston a few years ago? One of those killed was a CCW holder. he was not allowed to bring his gun to work. but that restriction did not stop thee shooter. Oh and he, the shooter, did not have a permit.

Again the type of person who would do thatt will have a gun regardless of permits or rules. With 36 states allowing this how many instaces have you heard about? How many concelaed weapon permit holders have done this at all? How many times have we heard the blood will flow in the streets? Yet it has not happened. but heck if I break in your house and you harm me my family can sue you and will win... What a backwards way of living.
I am OK with you having a gun so long as you keep it the hell away from me and don't have easy access to it when we have a yelling match over using Visual Basic at work. How about the company tax those who bring guns to work so that an office gun safe can be bought. Anyone who wants to protect themselves on their daily comute* can then hand their gun in on the way into the office. Someone everyone trusts can then hold the keys/code to the safe and be the judge of whether the person checking their gun out is in a rational frame of mind (i.e. not drunk, not enraged.) That person should be called when a gun owner is fired too. * I understand that need. Here in South Africa having your car break down on the side of the road at night is not a good thing. If you live in one of thee 35+ states that allow CCW I am sure someone around you has a gun on them. You just do not know it.

Ahh but you have fallen into the lil trap.. Owning a gun is illeagal in the UK but you still have gun crime. And that crime is rising. So making it illeagal to own a gun only hurts those who follwed the law. Criminals don't care if they break 3 loaws or 10 at a time but you think it is ok to stop me from protecting myself from them. Guns are not banned outright. You can still own rifles and shotguns here. Handguns are banned, though you may be able to get 2.2 sports hand gund. Thing is criminals don't just go on wild shootings at the general public either. The rise has been entirely due to criminal on criminal crime between gangs. Its why people in the UK really don't care about owning a gun to protect themselves because its not a problem. In fact banning had guns has proved to be totally ineffective agaist gund crime. People draw the simple conclusion that its related to gun ownership. I DO NOT BELIVE THIS!!! I think its much more of a culture problem in the US. People in the US love guns! Its not the case in Europe at all. They are a useful tool when used correctly. I grew up on a farm. I also did sports rifle shooting at school, and to this day, while I've used them a lot, I still feel waery of guns, and am always very careful with them. I would feel very uncomfortable wearning a hand gun, or having one concealed. You will find nearly all Europeans feel the same way. In the US guns are a macho thing. Using them is a right of passage to manhood. Its not the case here. Its from that that I belive the US has a problem with guns, and why gun crime is so high in the US - People teaching their kids that guns are cool, and they make you a man - Gun crime in the US is a man problem. Nearly every houshold in Switzerland has a gun in it, yet they don't have gun crime. Why? Its back down to the culture in the US which is also a paranoid culture. I'm not against guns, I just think people should start being less reactionary about them, and take them for what they actually are. A tool designed for killing. Not something to be advertised by an oiled up model in a bikini.

Look man, don't go messing with my lunchtime sport hunting. Just down the road is a nice park with some swings, a merry go-round and a petting zoo. You expect me to drive home, fetch my semi-auto, drive all the way back, pop some lamas and then drive all the way back home to drop off my semi-auto and then come back to work all in one lousy 45 minute lunch break? ... On a saner note we had a chap come into work with a revolver once. He put it in his desk drawer and then during lunch brought it out to show us all. He thought we all liked guns. Instead we took him into the conference room and gave him a warning letter. He made it worse when he tried to explain it away by saying it was not even his gun, that it was not licensed and that he was taking it to the gun shop across the street to sell. Actually, that guy was a bit crazy. Smart chap but nuts. A few weeks after firing him we saw his wife standing outside our building on the pavement with two rifles (thankfully in their leather cases) waiting for him to pick her up.
