Need a watch
-
After 14 years my watch has suddenly died on me. I loved my watch dearly and now I'm watchless.:(( The issue is that I like watches that are not just watches, but have other functionality too: 1. It has to have scheduler 2. Calculator 3. Show the date 4. Not to look as a plastic toy.(preferably silver casing) My watch was of Casio databank silver casing watches. It seems that they do not manufacture this type anymore. Any suggestions where I could get a similar watch?
I haven't worn a watch in over four years... ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

Casio still carries calendar watches, I don't buy them (I buy G-shock, the only ones that live long enough with me), so I don't know if you are saying the ones they still sell all look plastic or no longer have a scheduler function separate from the calendar? I assume since these have callendars that you would just have to update the calender often. http://www.casio.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=products.detail&catalog=§ion=&product=EDB610D%2D8C[^] http://www.casio.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=products.detail&product=EDB610%2D1C[^] outside of that, my cellphone has a full calendar with repeating function capability and voice scheduling, voice notes, calculator, etc. I carry a cell phone with me anyhow, if you have an older cell phone you might find it easier to use those functions on a cell phone with a larger display and keep the watch a watch. I peeked around, but didn't see much more on calculator watches than those. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. apart from a geeky watch that has all the modern electronics, what would a watch have that makes it unique, elegant, stylish, cute, innovative, or just different. no glamour, diamonds or other riches.

OK...I guess the Timex guy has to chime in here. We actually have a really great watch called the Data Link. The latest version has a USB connection to the PC. It includes software (that I :cough: wrote) that lets you add whatever modes into the watch that you want. It's not metal, but you can get one with a metal band with rubber inlays. Wal-Mart[^]sells it. You can also buy it online from Timex (we have more of the styles available). Here are a couple of styles: Metal band #1[^] Metal Band #2[^] The cool thing about the watch is that we made the development tools available to the public, which allows you and others to create your own applications. There is a Yahoo group with over 3000 members devoted to this customization. See it here[^]. There is also a new developer group where all the assembly languages questions are answered. You can find that group here[^]. In my opinion, this is by far a superior product to the Databank watches. [Edit] I should also mention that the software can get Appointments, Contacts and Notes from Outlook, as well as download iCal schedules. To me? no winding, no batteries, just works... I almost have that with the solar, it collects most of what it needs from room-light and driving home/to work, but I would rather have one of the kinetic wind watches -- I just can't afford them yet. http://seikousa.com/Product.aspx?productId=448[^] Since I kill watches for a living I think (hey, the watch prevented me from hitting my arm on the wall, so the watch is insurance right?), I stay under $100.00, usually gshock because they at least last year(s) rather than weeks, and water resistant is a must. I hope the kinetics will reach there, but the solar Gshock are getting me by. :) _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. I'd forgotten about those, and you are right they are superior -- I love timex watches, I just can't wear them. I wish the Ironman watches wouldn't break on me.... :sigh: I miss the day when you could run over a timex watch and pick it up and use it. I am definately the bane of all watch designers. Of course none of that is your department. :-D My last ironman lasted exactly two weeks. I broke a corner pin on day 9, by day 11 I broke the second, by day 13 I broke all corner pins holding the face down and the watch fell apart. Like I said, I am the bane of all watch designers. :-> _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Talk about things of tomorrow and the mice in the ceiling laugh. You probably won't have a problem anymore. The corner pins or nuts are fake. The case is a single piece of molded plastic with the metal backing screwed in by metal screws. The fake nuts can break off (if you are a little rough on 'em), but the watch will hold together. Regards, Brigg Thorp Senior Software Engineer Timex Corporation

hmmmm... maybe I need to try again.... I like some of the new watches, but now when I see an external screw/pin, I move on to the next watch. I am more than a little rough on 'em. But you should see the other guy.... I have half-feeling in my left hand/wrist, so I tend to not notice how much damage I do to the watch, walls, equipment... buildings... boulders. :) Yes, I tried moving the watch to my right hand to save the watch, but then I just damage my arm... better the watch than bones. ;) _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau.
