firewire again...

So let me get this straight, you buy a crappy no-name clone, get a crappy no-name firewire add-in card (to support an Apple standardized device), then bitch that it's Windows fault that it doesn't work as well as on the computer it was invented for?

well i asked for help several times ... i googled for hours ... i checked technet ... i checked lacie.com ... and i have no problems with the hardware on other operating systems and computers (ie, mac) i wasnt looking for an argument ... i was expressing an opinion as i am allowed to do i believe what i really dont need or care for is the knee-jerk from all the ms fanboys who cant handle even the slightest suggestion that windows might not be 100% perfect in every circumstance ... as i said before ... they can f*** off

Which version of XP? Home or Pro? I assume you are running SP2. I used to have problems prior to SP2 on Pro with certain external devices, which I put down to faulty drivers. I guess you'll have done a Google Groups search for the specific hardware to see if anybody else has seen the same problems with XP. I usually find it a good source of information. yeah ... and yeah i did all the searches and stuff ... if the problem was reliable (ie, always did x or always did y) then i could deal with it but some days its fine and others it completely barfs out never on other operating systems tho

{biz stuff} {about me} -- modified at 15:01 Sunday 23rd October, 2005I hate to say this, but... Don't buy another external harddrive unless it supports USB2. If it supports both Firewire *and* USB2, so much the better - but insist on that USB2 support. Let's face it - no matter what the relative advantages / disadvantages are, the industry always standardizes eventually, and what USB2 lacks in efficiency (in terms of software hand-holding), it more than makes up for in ease of implementation (hardware) and flexibility (hardware and software). It'll be the only game in town before long (well, except for SATA).

{biz stuff} {about me} -- modified at 15:01 Sunday 23rd October, 2005Have you updated the firmware? Your reference to LaCie implies its a LaCie drive. If so, see http://www.lacie.com/download/drivers/ReadMeFW800SP2.pdf[^] If you're just letting off steam, that's fine. If you want some help, you might have more luck if you tell us what computer (make, type of FireWire etc) and FireWire drive you're using.
