A friend of mine is working with me on updating my site. He's pretty talented and his name is Jed Splitt. You can nab his URL from this post if you wish. He's a good designer though I think... But with web stuff it's all relative right? wink-wink So he's come up with 8 logos for me. I like 3, 5 and 8. Which one (please keep it to 1 of the 8) do you like and feel free to list reasons to or not. I am asking because ultimately it will be people just like you who go to the site and like it... or not for these types of elements and logo has a lot of power I think. So here's the URL http://www.jedsplit.com/rex/logos.html[^] Reply in a post and let me know which one if any you like. Or do you prefer my current logo (see profile) and the site should just incorporate those colors... - Rex

From my perspective they're all basically the same - slight variations of the word mark, with the same logo. I don't really have a preference. One suggestion I have though: Since you have a word mark along with the logo, a good check would be to see if the logo can stand on its own. That's what identifies major brands; and what makes for a great corporate identity. Examples would be McDonalds, Shell etc. They all have word marks, but don't need them to be recognized. It's not an easy thing to do which is why most companies have to rely on the word mark for recognition. I find your frog-on-a-rock to look a little too generic to be something that stands on its own. It's very nicely drawn, but it also looks like something you might find in a clipart library. Maybe something could be done with the rock to make it more unique looking? Anyway, just my thoughts. As an aside, John suggested using the rock as the 'O' in frog. It sounds neat and would probably look OK but that design has been put through the wringer an awful lot in the past decade or so. It's really been overdone - which would just makes the logo even more generic looking. For some ideas that are really fresh, you might want to check out HOW Magazine[^] or some other magazine for graphic artists. Their web stuff doesn't look all that comprehensive, but I get all kinds of new ideas from the actual magazine. I'm still searching for the inspiration I need for a new logo - hope you find yours! you really have to take one of the frog looking in the right direction.( no 6 or 7 ) because : right = future left = past You want your logo showing that you are ready to face the future (or whatever marketing bullsh*t) Just my CAD 0.02$ Stephane

If you are going to be using this logo for a company, you should also consider how it will be used on a business card and letterhead. It should also look good in a smaller format or have an alternative image for smaller formats. Tim Smith I'm going to patent thought. I have yet to see any prior art.

I like 5, but I also like the offset of "System Architects" in 4...So how about 5 using the offset in 4. I guess that I would have to see it to know for sure. 2 opinions for 1 I prefer 5 but I'd put the Systems Architects line in black, I'm sure it would look better in black and white and it will surely be printed like that. I also asked my girlfriend to look at them also (I'm the techy she's the artsy) and to her, number 4 stood out as cleaner/clearer. Since you mention your current logo, I truly believe it looks cool. But I'd associate it more with a graphics shop, I have to say I think the new set of options look more "serious and professional" whatever that means but that's probably the goal of the logo.

Well for me all of them looks alike. except for there positions. there is actually no choice as such. I will suggest you to make a page somehting like this (BELOW) and have the users comment on them you might get a lot of brilliant ideas there were a lot of choices and a lot of different concepts One here[^] and the second one here Second one here[^] Even i had some Eye opener phenomenun when i saw the poll results there and the users choice --- My first article^ -- modified at 19:30 Tuesday 13th December, 2005

My vote is for 1 or 5. I question on how you will be percieved if "System Architect" is boldy presented or not included at all. I.E. what clientel are you attracting. Consulting to help design the systems, or delivery of an end product. "Simplicity is more complicated than you think. But it’s well worth it” (Ron Jeffries)

I also like 3, 5 and 8. They could be used interchangably depending on the space you have for the logo. Your current logo is too busy, it is actually difficult to make out what it is at first glance.

Exactly what I was wondering. Does "System Architects" imply that you don't write code? For large companies, an "architect" would never get near any code - they spend their time tweaking UML diagrams and database relationship diagrams. And what if you want to go in a different direction sometime in the future? Maybe something more generic would be better.

Rex - All excellent stuff, my personal opinions. o it is better to keep the frog on the side. if you use the frog as the centered background - i think it dims the code-frog name. that leaves only 5,6,7,8 as my choices. o somehow the frog looking backwards (to the left) doesnt seem to be dynamic. at least i perceive graphics facing the opposite direction of text flow as looking "back". that leaves 5,8 o the vertical text (system architects) doesnt do it for me. it will probably look pretty bad in smaller sizes so the winner is "5"! some additional feedback. 1) you might want to re-think embedding "system architects" in your logo. you can always place the text below your logo on your website and in printed material as a slogan. 2) while the frog artwork is really good - you might want to reconsider the rock. i would suggest you consider dropping the rock. that way your central theme (the frog) is stronger. If you must have the rock, you can add further value by making it a globe (like someone suggested)

Number one. Font color makes it easier on the eyes and the mere size of it isn't overwhelming. If you shrink the others too small, it'll be hard to read the "System Architects" part anyway. Jeremy Falcon
