It's not surprising for a HDD to fail after 4 years. Average lifespan is 3 to 4, so yours was just OK. What I don't know is why you stopped using the other 5. HDDs and batteries always fail, it's just a fact of life. Having them in an array means your data is safe and you just replace the failed unit. Edit: My post was not meant to say that Seagates are better than brands; just that they are not worse. As I said above, all drives will fail and I was just a bit lucky to have mine fail latter than usual. Mircea

Yup -- every language can be used poorly. "Modern" languages try to make things idiot proof, but that will always fail. Any time anyone makes something idiot proof, someone else makes a better idiot.

Very cool! He's done some great stuff, and it looks like he's got some more to do! I totally agree with his committment to learning, as I do that myself. But rather than focusing on the thing I like to do, I diversify. A few years ago, after I retired the first time from the energy industry, I took on a study of gunsmithing at a place called American Gunsmithing Institute and completed the Professional Gunsmith Level 2 program. At the time they had a Master level, too, but it included a bunch of tools that I already have, so I passed. Eight years later they came up with a new level, sans the tools, called the Advanced Master course. It adds a few hundred more hours of training, includes certified Armorer courses for about 85 popular guns, and certification on all Glocks, Model 1911s, AR-style rifles and pistols, as well as expansion packs of 10 - 12 DVDs each, covering about a hundred more firearms than the several hundred I studied the first time around. Good stuff, this always learning something new, and the Internet makes it so much easier to find stuff! I'm also taking an online class in AutoCAD, and taking classes with ESRI to improve my mapping skills using ArcGIS Pro. I bought a pair of GNSS receivers with accessories last year, one Base and one Roaming on a stick, and it would be a shame to let that investment go to waste for lack of knowledge on using all that GIS data! I once interviewed for a job as a programmer at a casino, and their hiring process included sitting around a room full of applicants and telling everyone there what we have done and know how to do. It took a while, and the guy that was supposed to follow me got up and left saying, "I can't compete with that." Nitwit - he was applying for busboy. In the end I declined the offer they gave me because 1) they still thought Visual C was a great product and 2) a lot of the internal apps were written using VB6. I went to work as a Yamaha parts salesman and ended up getting certified as a Yamaha Five Star Service Tech in all product lines. Never leave me alone with a stack of training videos! Will Rogers never met me.

The STM32s w/ CubeMX are alright. You can use them with Zephyr too. I'm kind of disappointed in the hardware selection offered by STM32. They don't really push the envelope for ARM devices the way NXP does. The issue with NXP is coding w/ MCUXpresso is like having your teeth pulled. But 1GHz ARM Cortex M (not a typo) in the NXP MIMIXRT1170 that can take various types of external "flash" including - get this - m.2 storage, plus external RAM including DDR3 is an absolute beast. It has a second 400MHz lower power Cortex M core as well. It is, as far as I know, the only realtime MCU that can run Linux. Really amazing kit. I have a $200 devkit w/ it but MCUXpresso has kept me from doing more with it. There's scuttlebutt on the PJRC forums that the next Teensy will use this chip. If so, they will support Arduino. What a world. Check out my IoT graphics library here: https://honeythecodewitch.com/gfx And my IoT UI/User Experience library here: https://honeythecodewitch.com/uix

Cute, but in my experience most engineering shops don't fully understand agile development.  They often see it as bolt-on that will magically enhance productivity. :) IMHO an R&D department can't be agile in isolation.  The entire product development organization needs to be agile, else it's unlikely to provide any benefits. /ravi My new year resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Articles | My .NET bits | Freeware ravib(at)ravib(dot)com

To join the conversation, any animal or human can be gross, but to keep it between dogs and cats, a couple of individuals really stand out for disgusting behavior. One was a male (neutered) cat that belonged to a roommate. It repeatedly pissed/sprayed on my bed if the door was left open. The other was a cocker spaniel that belonged to my daughter and we kept for several months. When she dropped him off, he was almost a year old and still un-neutered. (she had been meaning to get it done...) Of course, he got clipped right away, but it never suppressed that male dog instinct of marking territory...even in the house...plants, furniture, guitar, computer, etc. X| I admit that I caught him in the act once and held him in the air by the back legs having evil thoughts about how to stop the leg lifting problem. ...but I didn't do it. I've now got a 10y/o blond cocker who is the best dog I've ever had. I swear he tries to be good...except for last month when he repeatedly walked through hardwood flooring glue...that stuff doesn't come off! "Go forth into the source" - Neal Morse "Hope is contagious"

And there's nothing "ick" about letting a cat crap in a box in the house? That you then have to empty yourself? I've got two of those laptops, and one large floor model. The laptops provide rodent control, the latter wet kisses and ball retrieval services.
