I bought this book along with Archer's Inside C# last month to teach myself the .net framework. I do my work now in VC 6 and I've been busy so I haven't been able to really dive into it. But from what I've covered so far it seems to be a great book. " Why oh why didn't I take the blue pill ? "

Correction, I have that book sitting in front of me right now. It's very low level and very interesting. If you want to learn C# and .NET, this isn't the book for you. If you want to know how C# works, this is essential reading. Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke

If you feel like saving $12 and don't feel the need for a video of Jeff Richter and a set of posters of the .NET Framework 1.1 libraries, see http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735614229/[^]. Same book, but without the extra stuff. I have this book, and rate it quite highly. It's very low-level; it won't tell you anything about ADO.NET or ASP.NET. However, I'm the kind of person who needs to know the building blocks to understand the building. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

Peter Reiter wrote: so how do you think of this book? I bought that book a long time ago and it does a great job of explaining many of the true inner-workings to .NET. If you just want to lean the syntax to C# you might look elsewhere, however if you are interested in learning more this is definitely a worthy purchase. - Nick Parker

If it's by Jeffrey Richter, I'd buy it. Christian I have drunk the cool-aid and found it wan and bitter. - Chris Maunder
