So, who are the two developers (Jon Rosenberg and Nenad Stefanovic) working on the project. Are they somehow connected with Microsoft?
Nenad is the MS guy who began the WTL project. --Mike-- Personal stuff:: Ericahist | Homepage Shareware stuff:: 1ClickPicGrabber | RightClick-Encrypt CP stuff:: CP SearchBar v2.0.2 | C++ Forum FAQ ---- Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering? I think so Brain, but how will we fit the hamster inside the accordion?

If WTL is so much better than MFC, why didn't Microsoft replace MFC with it? I'm not trying to start any huge discussion, I'm just curious. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

John Simmons / outlaw programmer wrote: I'm not trying to start any huge discussion, I'm just curious. I don't know the answer to that one. I'm guessing internal politics and the fact that WTL is heavily STL/C++ based... which probably didn't suit the direction that Microsoft was trying to move developers. Michael CP Blog [^]

John Simmons / outlaw programmer wrote: If WTL is so much better than MFC, why didn't Microsoft replace MFC with it? Microsoft is trying to move most people to .Net programming. "Unmanaged" native API programming is viewed as either a "legacy" pursuit or a niche market for performance-critical applications. As such, it is not the focus of Microsoft attention. MFC has a huge user base and all that goes with it (code libraries, instruction books, newsgroups etc.). I think that trying to turn that ocean liner around and get people to switch to WTL was considered more trouble than it was worth. Further, the advantages of WTL (leaner, less prescriptive framework, more modern use of C++ etc.) are not necessarily things that MS cares a lot about. John Carson "I wish to propose for the reader's favourable consideration a doctrine which may, I fear, appear wildly paradoxical and subversive. The doctrine in question is this: that it is undesirable to believe a proposition when there is no ground whatever for supposing it true." - Bertrand Russell
