I can't believe that they didn't call it Star Wars Episode II, now everytime I read Attack of the Clones I will have no idea that it is part of the Star Wars saga. That was the reason that George called it Star Wars Episode I wasn't it? Because they thought that no one would relate the movie to Star Wars if they didn't explicitly have it in the title. Also is this story true? Several a years ago a movie was released called Richard the Third, about an English King. In the US it was called something else as the theory was, no one would watch it as they hadn't seen the first two movies. My first reaction was oh dear, but thinking about it the rest of the titles were pretty cheesy. A New hope The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi The Phantom Menance Attack of the Clones fits nicely with the retro 30's serials that Lucas is aiming for. Perhaps we will stop taking Star Wars too seriously and remember that it is supposed to be a fun and not an obsession. Michael :-)

Michael, calm down. Take deep breaths and, using the force, will yourself to not stress so much. Stress leads to anger which leads to hatred which... ok I will shut up about that now. Officially the movie is called Star Wars, Episode II, Attack of The Clones. The whole shebang. So you get the Episode and Star Wars bits plus the sub title bit of Attack of the Clones. Frankly I think Attack of the Clones sounds very corny and not in a good "retro" way either. Sounds like a b-grade horror to me. I will definitley carry on refering to it as "Episode II". regards, Paul Watson Cape Town, South Africa e: paulmwatson@email.com w: vergen.org

Actually the episodes were named appropriately for the movie, and they were wordsmithed to actually sound good: I -- The Phantom Menace - This is obviously illustrative of the creation of the crisis at Naboo by Palpitine. And the title has a rythm. II -- 'Attack of the Clones' -- Everyone knew that this episode was going to be about the Clone Wars, however even 'Episode II - The Clone War' would have been better than 'Attack of the Clones' III -- 'Exit of the Jedi' -- Since there is no title for this movie yet, I'll assume that this is where Darth Vader hunts down and kills all of the Jedi. IV -- A New Hope -- At this point in the series, the Emperor is at the height of his power. The Jedi are gone, and all he has to worry about is a 'pitiful band' of rebels. However, the destruction of his battlestation breaths life into the rebellion. V -- The Empire Strikes Back -- This one is actually pretty bad as far as a title goes. However, it is pretty dark as the Emperor gains the upper hand on our heros. VI -- Return of the Jedi -- In this final episode, the balance is restored and Jedi return to the Star Wars universe. All is well, and the prophecy is fulfilled. BTW the original title of the movie was 'Revenge of the Jedi', I have an official LucasFilm patch they sent to people in the Star Wars fan club. Fortunately, Lucas realized before release that a Jedi doesn't seek Revenge, so it was a really bad title. Seriously, as far as serial titles go. The Star Wars titles are pretty good. Buy 'Attack of' anything evokes Mystery Science Theater 3K and I take Star Wars slightly more serious than that. When religion and politics help drive the same cart, they tend to drive faster and faster until it is too late to stop when they see the cliff ahead -- Frank Herbert.

I -- The Phantom Menace - This is obviously illustrative of the creation of the crisis at Naboo by Palpitine. And the title has a rythm. Ahem, I have to disagree.. Palpatine is a good guy at this time, the crisis was created by Darth Sidious. 'Phantom' because Sidious never actually appears before Amidala or the Senate. "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one." - Senator Palpatine

Palpatine and Darth Sidious are the same guy, or am I incorrect? Kind regards, Tim

Palpatine is a senator from Naboo in Ep 1. He becomes the Supreme Chancellor, and later the Emperor ( Ep 4, 5, 6). Darth Sidious is a Sith Lord in Ep 1. "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one." - Senator Palpatine

I have an official LucasFilm patch they sent to people in the Star Wars fan club. Fortunately, Lucas realized before release that a Jedi doesn't seek Revenge... Is that a Revenge of the Jedi patch that you have? If so, you could probably sell that for a ton of money, and I don't mean on eBay. ;) I mean real collectors. Many years ago I read a movie magazine article and the author said he was able to pay for his kid's college with the money he got from selling a RevengeOTJ poster. --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ "Make sure that if you are using a blow torch that you don't set anything on fire." -- Chris Maunder

I believe it was called "The Phantom Menace" because Senator Palpatine was able to usurp the position of Supreme Chancellor by manipulating the Trade Federation and Queen Amidala from the shadows. By attaining this position of power, he was then able to orchestrate the demise of the Republic.

my 2 cents. by the time that Episode II will be released, ticket prices are *probably* going to be around 15-16 bucks (canadian). (EXTREME rip off when most movies these days have all the plot of an Oreo cookie...WHATEVER happened to the great "thinking" movies of days gone by??? *E grumbles* I will be waiting for video on this one, because I refuse to cowtow to these ridiculous theatre prices. The only thing that would make me see it in the theatre would be the title of "Star Wars II - The Painfull Dissemination of Jar Jar Binks" (or something akin to that) Title for Star Wars III? "Three Jedi and a baby" Weren't there rumours long ago about John Woo directing one of the prequels? I think that episode II sounds like it'll have lots of battles, so Woo should direct the action... Thank goodness the rumours were false about Dicaprio taking the role of Anakin in Episode II... As Borusa always said, There's nothing more useless than a lock with a voice print.

Darth Siduous = Palpitine. The Emperor's name is Palpitine, if you read any of the Star Wars source material from George Lucas. The Emporer is Darth Vader's Master Darth Siduous is Darth Vader's Master Therefore, Darth Siduous is Palpitine. When religion and politics help drive the same cart, they tend to drive faster and faster until it is too late to stop when they see the cliff ahead -- Frank Herbert.

I'm still trying to get over The Phantom Menace. My company bought everyone movie tickets when it came out and several of us went to go see it together. A coworker who has read all the Star Wars books told me that Anakin will be Darth Vader when he grows up. I tried not to believe it, but several people have confirmed it. :((

Did you see the first star wars trilogy? They refer to Luke's father as Anakin Skywalker. I really hope you are being sarcastic or cracking a joke :-) Or are you waiting to watch the whole prequel before watching the star wars trilogy? -Sam C Sam C ---- Systems Manager Hospitality Marketing Associates

At the time, I had seen the trilogy a long time ago and did not remember that. After seeing the movie I bought my son the trilogy. Yes they do refer to him as Anakin :(( My son looks a lot like Anakin. Yes I am teasing, of course I will go see the new one as soon as it comes out.
