Well, after seeing the huge fantasy book thread, I had to plug my fantasy art site: www.epilogue.net Some extremely well-known book cover artists among the 3,000 approved artists. Now if I had only coded it in .NET I'd be much happier today! http://www.knowledgegeek.com - Come on! I need the Traffic!

I think I know what you mean. Funny how many beautiful women wind up weilding swords or taking on dragons, rather than being rescued from them (although there are some of those, too, I bet). There are also lots of sci-fi pieces there. A fun project to keep my mind sharp. One day I will try to do a .NET conversion, though I would have to move from linux-based EVERYTHING to Windows. Now THAT would be a huge undertaking. http://www.knowledgegeek.com - Come on! I need the Traffic!

When it comes to fantasy art, I should certainly prefer good old surrealism. Hieronymus Bosch, when it comes to old surrealism, can still teach all these airbrush and ink people a few lessons. Why is it that "fantasy art" (and fantasy literature, creatures, etc etc) is dominated by so uninspired variations of pointed ears, long fangs, etc? Doesn't seem very rich in fantasy to me. Have a look at Bosch's work. Or Dali, Magritte, or Kahlo, if you prefer something more recent. Now we're talking! Bernd

My favourite fantasy/s-f artist is Rodney Matthews - ever since I saw some of his album & book covers... Stuart Dootson 'Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p'
