Does anyone have any decent leads on .Net developer positions (C#, ASP.Net etc) in the Portland, OR (or anywhere in the Pac NW) area? All of my old contacts have left the area since I last lived there, and none of the job boards are much use at present. As usual, it looks like networking is key to landing a decent position, and my network is currently node-poor. Thanks for any suggestions.

Don't know about your area, but I posted my resume on dice.com, I'm in the NYC area and got inundated with calls. I had a new contract within 48 hours of finding the current one was finishing. Gary

I've had really bad response (read "none") from FlipDog over the last year or so. Perhaps things have improved since I stopped checking; I'll give it another try. If I may ask, what are the names of the Portland area companies that are hiring? Thanks for your response.

I'll give dice another whirl. I do have a resume there, but it isn't as current as it could be. I know that refreshing them every so often can stimulate more response - I don't know if they're sorted by submission date, or what?? Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. Jared

It's very nice of you to offer. I know the market is pretty lean in that area right now. My family and I are motivated to move back to the area (we're in Austin right now, but we're from the Willamette Valley originally) due to some family concerns (and the fact that there's nowhere better to live on this continent). Thanks again for your help! Jared

The only place that I know of right off the bat is www.steptech.com[^] but they are small and usually not too much to choose from. Geez... the local TV stations have likes to nw jobs. You might try that. www.katu.com[^], www.kptv.com[^], www.kgw.com[^], www.koin.com[^]. Local newspaper may have something too, www.oregonian.com[^] Not sure how much good it would do but this is the paper for Vancouver, WA, justr across the border from Portland. www.columbian.com[^] I will try and get some real company names that are working with .NET. Any other interests? Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

Thanks for the tips on the TV stations. I was just on vacation in the Portland area, and checked out the newspapers. Not much there - a few listings, but nothing that really leapt out. I have a background in SQL Server, database design, DCOM, MTS/COM+/Enterprise Services, VB and (further back) MS Access as well as some prior experience using MSMQ (although not recently; of course it hasn't really changed all that much...).

I live down here in Southern Oregon, but do keep up with the job market as a .NET developer in Portland. Currently, keep track through Monster.com, FlipDog.com, portland.craigslist.org/tec/, Dice, www.emp.state.or.us/jobs/ and via the Portland Dot Net User Group, and www.padnug.org. There is a somewhat lean market compared to the old days, but I believe anyone with decent skills in .NET should be able to find livable wage position. Have also been told to check out www.atsigroup.com and Robert Half (www.rhic.com). There is also the job listings in the classified ads on www.oregonlive.com Rocky <>< www.HintsAndTips.com www.GotTheAnswerToSpam.com
