OK, Sorry Chris and all!!! I hate to do this... I wanted to let everyone know I finally got my Gmail account. And it was fairly easy. Hit up www.gmailswap.com[^] and post a request for one. I got one... actually two (sorry already shared it) within 5 minutes. Definitely a cool site. All though I feel bad... I am actually not going to use my account, being the geek I am I just wanted to see what all of the hype was about. ------------------------- Matthew R. Miller www.computersmarts.net[^]

Sorry I would if I had any. They do not give them out to everyone, and they only give them out at certain times. I had an extra one, when I was begging for mine, but I gave to a co-worker. It's real easy to get one on that site... offer up anything - there are tons of people one there that have a boat load of them. ------------------------- Matthew R. Miller www.computersmarts.net[^]

ok, I admit it, I haven't been following along. I realize that google came out with free email that has a huge capacity, and that there's a controversy over the bot-perusal of emails to target advertising, but what in the world is up with the "invite" stuff? Why are people hot about getting invitations? Invited to what? To get an email account? To one heck of an engineering release party? I wanna know! pls tell me! <\whine_mode_off> :rose:blueSprite

The way it works is a bit more elaborate than that. I'm quite sure that they are using some quite fancy algorithms to make sure it spreads into the 'right' communities. Also their is a fear factor, "what happens if you don't have Gmail?". IMHO: this is just Phase 1 of a devious and well thought out marketting plan. I have quite a few invites to giveaway. :-) Use the email [PM] option to send me your email address to send it to. (rather than clogging up this forum). Anyone else who is quick can ask for an invite as well. Regardz Colin J Davies Attention: Watch this signature for an upcoming announcement that will affect you.

Oh Cr@p someone replied and asked a question about the product tours on our website... well I accidentally deleted it before replying (sorry).. anyway I hope you are reading because the answer is below… sorry again. Answer: I do not know because we outsourced the development of the tours for time purposes. I can contact the developer and ask him if you need. ------------------------- Matthew R. >The way it works is a bit more elaborate than that. Oh? I am willing to bet it's dead simple and we, the people, are overcomplicating it as usual to satisfy our reasoning :) It's the same as the private parties that companies like Camel run, they are wildly popular yet have invite only lists. They simply give out invites to the gatekeepers of society who then do the leg work. regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass South Africa Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Gassho rei, Watson-san!" However on deciding on who the gatekeepers are, a 'bit of math' is used. IMHO: This gatekeeper selection is what google is currently using for marketting GMail, and the Google brand. Lets say PWatson has been given one invitation, and he then gave it to someone who has then used it very well, the logic is now to reward PWatson with more invites, to see if his strike rate remains high. Google would obviously like to gain pockets of high useing 'beta testers' who will then fester spread the use of GMail into other sectors. One strong point that I believe Google may have, is that it could be sitting on the answer to spam. Other email providers have only provided token measures to counter spam. However Google has several advantages in this area, that I believe will give them a boost in finding a solution. I wouldn't be surprised if google was also working on a GMail client and a GMail protocol that could revolutionaize a few things. If so Goggle shares are a good investment.
